2016 Louisiana Democratic Primary
The 2016 Louisiana Democratic presidential primary took place on March 5 in the U.S. state of Louisiana as one of the Democratic Party's primaries ahead of the 2016 presidential election. On the same day, Democratic primaries were held in Kansas and in Nebraska, while the Republican Party held primaries in four states, including their own Louisiana primary. Clinton won every parish in the state except for Cameron and LaSalle Parishes. Opinion polling Results Clinton dominated in Louisiana winning all but two of the states parishes. LaSalle Parish ( French: ''Paroisse de La Salle'') is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 14,791. The parish seat is Jena. The parish was created in 1910 from the western section of Catahoula Parish. Name The parish is named for René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. There is some confusion as to whether the parish is spelled "LaSalle" (no space) or "La Salle." An example of the latter view can be seen in the photo at right of the sign over the entrance to a "La Salle Parish Courthouse." Claiborne Parish () is a parish located in the northwestern section of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The parish was formed in 1828, and was named for the first Louisiana governor, William C. C. Claiborne. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,170. The parish seat is Homer. History John Murrell moved his family from Arkansas to the Flat Lick Bayou area about 6 miles west of present-day Homer in 1818, and they became the first known non-natives to permanently settle in Claiborne Parish. The parish seat and largest city is Lake Charles.
