2016 British Shadow Cabinet Resignations
On 26–29 June 2016, 21 members of the Shadow Cabinet of Jeremy Corbyn, Shadow Cabinet resigned from the frontbench. Jeremy Corbyn assumed the position of Leader of the Opposition after being elected as leader of the Labour Party on 12 September 2015; the election was triggered by Ed Miliband's resignation following the Labour Party's electoral defeat at the 2015 general election when David Cameron formed a majority Conservative government. The usual number of junior shadow ministers were also appointed. Corbyn appointed his first Shadow Cabinet in September 2015. Deputy Leader Of The Labour Party (UK)
The Deputy Leader of the Labour Party is the second highest ranking politician in the British Labour Party. The Deputy Leader also serves as the Deputy Chairperson of the Labour Party, and acts as Leader in the House in the event that the Leader cannot. Alex Cunningham
Alexander Cunningham (born 1 May 1955) is a British politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Stockton North since 2010. A member of the Labour Party, he has been Shadow Minister for Courts and Sentencing since 2020. Born in Scotland and raised in Darlington, Cunningham began his career as a journalist in Teesside and later worked as a private sector communications officer in the region. Yvonne Fovargue
Yvonne Helen Fovargue (born 29 November 1956) is a British Labour Party politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Makerfield since 2010. Early life and career Fovargue attended Sale Grammar School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Leeds. In the 1980s, she worked as a housing officer on the Moss Side estate, before becoming the Chief Executive of St Helens Citizens Advice Bureau, a role she held for over 20 years. Anna Catherine Turley (born 9 October 1978) is a British politician. She was the Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament (MP) for Redcar from 2015 until 2019. 2015 Labour Party Leadership Election (UK)
The 2015 Labour Party leadership election was an internal Labour Party poll which was triggered by the resignation of Ed Miliband as Leader of the Labour Party on 8 May 2015, following the party's defeat at the 2015 general election. Harriet Harman, the Deputy Leader, became Acting Leader but announced that she would stand down after the leadership election. It was won by Jeremy Corbyn in the first round.
