National First Division
The South African Championship, officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African football after the South African Premiership. Both the South African Championship and South African Premiership are organised by the Premier Soccer League. Structure and rules Seasons 2007–2011 The restructured NFD was divided into two streams, one inland and another coastal – each of which consisted of 8 teams. The winners of the two streams played against each other in a 'final' at the end of the season – the winner of which was promoted to the Premiership. The loser of the 'final' played in a mini-tournament/play-offs against the two second-placed teams in each stream and the 15th-placed team on the Premiership log. Vasco Da Gama (South Africa)
Vasco da Gama is a South African football club based in the Parow suburb of the city of Cape Town. Coming from the lower ranks, the club had its roots entrenched in the local Portuguese South African community, and adopted its name, crest and team colours from the Brazilian club Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama. The Makhulong Stadium (sometimes referred to as Tembisa Stadium) is a South African multi-sports stadium in Tembisa, a township of Ekurhuleni. In 2009, it underwent a R38 million renovation and was brought up to Premier Soccer League standards. KaNyamazane Stadium, formerly also named Lekazi Stadium, is a multi-use stadium in the KaNyamazane township, South Africa. It is situated 2.5km from Mthethomusha Game Reserve -also referred to as the SouthWestern corner of Kruger National Park; which is roughly 25 kilometres east of Mbombela, in the Mpumalanga province. The stadium received a significant upgrade from May 2009 to May 2010. Currently, and throughout its previous history, the stadium is used mostly for local events and football matches. South African Premier Division
The South African Premiership, also known as the Betway Premiership for sponsorship reasons, and commonly referred to as the PSL after its governing body, is a professional soccer league in South Africa and the highest level of the South African soccer league system. 2016–17 SAFA Second Division
The 2016–17 SAFA Second Division (known as the ABC Motsepe League for sponsorship reasons) was the 19th season of the SAFA Second Division, the third tier league for South African association football clubs, since its establishment in 1998. Due to the size of South Africa, the competition is split into nine divisions, one for each region. After the league stage of the regional competition was completed, the nine teams are placed into two 'streams', sometimes referred to as the Inland and Coastal streams. It was won by Uthongathi, who beat Super Eagles 1-0 in the playoff final. Both teams were promoted to the 2017-18 National First Division.
