The 2015 Seattle Mariners season was the 39th season in franchise history. The Mariners played their 16th full season (17th overall) at Safeco Field and finished the season with a record of 76–86. The Mariners played 23 extra-inning games during the season, the most of any MLB team in 2015. Offseason Signed Nelson Cruz to a four-year, $57 million deal on December 1, 2014. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, West Coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago and Minnesota. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. Julio Cruz (baseball)
Julio Luis Cruz (December 2, 1954 – February 22, 2022) was an American professional baseball second baseman for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball from 1977–1986. Career Cruz attended Redlands High School in Southern California, and earned all-league honors as a basketball point guard for Redlands. Cruz often said that he played basketball only to maintain his fitness, agility and speed for the baseball season. Although a lifetime .237 hitter with little power, Cruz had excellent speed. Six years in a row with the Seattle Mariners, from 1978 through 1983, he stole over 40 bases each season and was the team's all-time leader in that statistic leading to his nickname "the Cruzer". Tyler Olson (baseball)
Tyler Ray Olson (born October 2, 1989) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Cleveland Indians. Amateur career Olson attended University High School in Spokane Valley, Washington. He enrolled at Gonzaga University and pitched for the Gonzaga Bulldogs baseball team. He pitched for the Bulldogs as a freshman in 2009, but took a redshirt in 2010 when he suffered a shoulder subluxation. In 2012, his junior year, he was added to the Bulldogs' starting rotation, and pitched 110 innings. The Oakland Athletics selected Olson in the 17th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. Taijuan Emmanuel Walker (born August 13, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). Thomas Andrew Pomeranz (born November 22, 1988), nicknamed Big Smooth, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, and San Diego Padres. Hisashi Iwakuma
is a Japanese former professional baseball pitcher. He has played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes from 2000 to 2004, Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles from 2005 to 2011, and Yomiuri Giants in 2019, and all of his time in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners from 2012 to 2017. Iwakuma retired in 2020 due to lingering shoulder issues that had prevented him from playing that year. Iwakuma made his professional debut with the Buffaloes in 2000. He was named a NPB All-Star in 2003 and 2004, and played in the 2004 Athens Olympics. He joined the Eagles in 2005. Matthew David Shoemaker (born September 27, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, and Minnesota Twins and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Yomiuri Giants. Prior to beginning his professional career, he played college baseball at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). Shoemaker has also competed for the United States national baseball team.
