The 2015 Plymouth City Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Plymouth City Council in England. The Labour Party lost its narrow majority, resulting in no party having overall control. Background Plymouth City Council held local elections on 7 May 2015 along with councils across the United Kingdom as part of the 2015 local elections. The council elects its councillors in thirds, with a third being up for election every year for three years, with no election in the fourth year. Plymouth City Council is the unitary authority for Plymouth, Devon. It has traditionally been controlled by Labour or the Conservatives. The council is currently in a state of no overall control, with the Conservatives governing as a minority administration. The council is run using the leader and cabinet model, where the leader of the council—normally the leader of the majority party—is selected by fellow councillors, who also select the executive, commonly referred to as the cabinet. Peverell (anciently Weston Peverell) is a neighbourhood of Plymouth in the English county of Devon. The 2001 Census estimated the population as 6,455, increasing dramatically to 13,553 at the 2011 census. History The area was originally part of the manor of Weston, listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as the 73rd of the 107 holdings of Juhel de Totnes (died 1123/30), Feudal baron of Totnes. Southway is a large suburban housing estate in north-west Plymouth in the English county of Devon. The name is believed to have derived from the route into Plymouth often used by Buckland Abbey monks, which was known as the "South Way". Geography The neighbourhood is spread across an often steep topography, which provides good views to the open areas of woodland to the north and south. Southway lies to the north of the Southway Valley Local Nature Reserve, an area of woodland and grassland with extensive footpaths accessible from the housing estate.
