2015 Peru Bus Accident
The 2015 Peru bus accident occurred on 24 March 2015, when a bus crashed into traffic in Peru, leaving at least 37 people dead and another 70 wounded. The accident took place on the Peru Highway 1, Carretera Panamericana near Huarmey, around 320 km north of Lima. The bus, belonging to the Murga Serrano line, swerved on the incoming lane and hit a truck along with two more buses. Peru Highway 1, most widely known as Carretera Panamericana, is the most important highway in Peru. This road is the Peruvian portion of the Pan-American Highway. It runs north–south through the whole length of the country and connects all major cities in the country's coastal area. The northern terminus of the highway is located in the Macará International Bridge (Piura Region) at the border with Ecuador. Starting in this point, the highway is known as ''Carretera Panamericana Norte'' ("North Pan-American Highway") until it reaches a point located in central Lima, the country's capital. 2018 Pasamayo Bus Crash
Around 12:00 (17:00 UTC) on 2 January 2018 a Peruvian bus carrying 57 passengers from Huacho to Lima went over a cliff after being struck by a tractor trailer near Pasamayo, Peru, killing 51 people and injuring at least 5 others. It is the deadliest road accident in Peruvian history, tied with the 2013 Peru bus disaster. The crash occurred near the 'Devil's Curve' highway, a precariously nicknamed route that is known for fatal traffic accidents. Accident Peruvian Transportation Minister Bruno Giuffra stated on Twitter that both vehicles were in "excess of speed" when the accident occurred shortly before noon. The area of the crash, which is 43 kilometers from Lima, was an isolated, rocky beach below the Devil's Curve not readily reachable by roadways. 2009 Espinar Bus Crash
The 2009 Espinar bus crash occurred in Espinar (near Cuzco), Peru, on 24 December 2009, when a bus rolled over the edge of a cliff, killing 41 and injuring 22. The bus had been transporting passengers between the provinces of Arequipa and Chumbivilcas in Southern Peru. 2010 Peru Bus Crash
The February 22, 2010, Peru bus crash was a collision between two buses that resulted in at least 38 deaths and the injury of 58. It took place along the Pan-American Highway near the town of Virú in northern Peru. The buses were carrying 80 and 70 passengers. The head-on crash occurred in the early hours of the morning. No official cause was given, but Peruvian newspaper '' El Comercio'' published pictures which show that the stretch of road lacked a white line between the opposing lanes, though such a line is required by law. The buses were operated by the Crisolito and America Express lines. According to unnamed police investigators, both bus drivers were exceeding the speed limits, and the Crisolito bus driver was responsible.
