2014 Telok Intan By-election
A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat parliamentary seat of Teluk Intan (federal constituency), Teluk Intan on 31 May 2014 following the nomination day on 19 May 2014. The seat was vacated after the death of the incumbent MP, Seah Leong Peng from bladder cancer in Kuala Lumpur on 1 May 2014. Seah was a lawmaker from the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. In the 2013 Malaysian general election, 2013 general election, he defeated Barisan Nasional(BN) candidate and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong and an independent candidate by 7,313 votes. The PR candidate in the by-election was DAP's Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, notable for her status as a rare Malay People, Malay politician in the DAP. The Election Commission of Malaysia (; Jawi: ), abbreviated SPR or EC, is a commission set up for ensuring fair and equitable operations in undertaking the elections in Malaysia. The agency falls under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department. 2013 Malaysian General Election
General elections were held in Malaysia on Sunday, 5 May 2013. Voting took place in all 222 parliamentary constituencies, each electing one MP to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. State elections also took place in 505 state constituencies in 12 of the 13 states (excluding Sarawak) on the same day. The elections were the first since Najib Razak became Prime Minister in 2009. The unofficial opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition led by Anwar Ibrahim received a majority of the vote, with its three member parties collectively receiving 50.9% of the vote. However, they won only 89 of the 222 seats. The incumbent governing alliance, Barisan Nasional, received 47.4% of the vote and won 133 seats, giving Najib a second term in office. Democratic Action Party
The Democratic Action Party (DAP; ) is a social democracy, social democratic and Secularism, secular political party in Malaysia, sitting on the Centre-left politics, centre-left of the political spectrum. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 2018 Malaysian general election, ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition. Seah Leong Peng
Seah Leong Peng (1966 – 1 May 2014) was a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Teluk Intan from May 2013 to his death in May 2014 and Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly for Pasir Bedamar from November 1999 to May 2013. He was a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of formerly the Barisan Alternatif (BA) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. Pakatan Rakyat
Pakatan Rakyat (PR; ) was an informal Malaysian political coalition and successor to Barisan Alternatif (BA). The political coalition was formed by the People's Justice Party (PKR), Democratic Action Party (DAP), and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) on 1 April 2008, after the 12th Malaysian general election, having previously formed the Barisan Alternatif (Alternative Front) in the 10th general election. On 20 April 2010, the Sarawak National Party (SNAP) officially joined as a member of the Pakatan Rakyat after being expelled from Barisan Nasional, but quit the coalition on 6 May 2011.
