Andrés Fontecilla
Andrés Fontecilla (born 20 September 1967) is a Canadian politician from Quebec. He was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2018 provincial election, representing the electoral district of Laurier-Dorion as a member of Québec solidaire. He was co-spokesperson of the party, along with Françoise David, from 2013 to 2017. Following his election in the 2022 provincial election, he was chosen to lead the issues of Housing and Dwelling, Immigration, Francisation and Integration, Fight against Racism, and Public Safety. Biography Fontecilla was born in Chile but emigrated to Canada in 1981, having fled the authoritarian regime of Augusto Pinochet. Majority Government
A majority government is a government by one or more governing parties that hold an absolute majority of seats in a legislature. Such a government can consist of one party that holds a majority on its own, or be a coalition government of multiple parties. This is as opposed to a minority government, where the government doesn't have a majority, and needs to cooperate with opposition parties to get legislation passed. A government majority determines the balance of power. The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly of Quebec, National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. Canadian Confederation () was the process by which three British North American provinces—the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick—were united into one federation, called the Name of Canada#Adoption of Dominion, Dominion of Canada, on July 1, 1867. The 1970 Quebec general election was held on April 29, 1970, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec. The former Legislative Assembly had been renamed the "National Assembly" in 1968, with its members now known in English as Members of the National Assembly (MNAs). In the election, the Quebec Liberal Party, led by Robert Bourassa, defeated the incumbent Union Nationale, led by Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand. This election marked the first appearance by a new party, the sovereigntist Parti Québécois, led by former Liberal cabinet minister René Lévesque. The Union nationale () was a conservatism, conservative and Nationalism, nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Autonomism in Quebec, Québécois autonomism.
