2014 Hackney London Borough Council Election
Elections to Hackney London Borough Council took place on 22 May 2014, the same day as the 2014 United Kingdom local elections. Results Alteration of electoral wards of London Borough of Hackney The Hackney (Electoral Changes) Order 2013 reduces the size of the council and creates new electoral wards. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England began the process of changing the size of Hackney in 2012. The new warding arrangement for the elections in 2014 are as follows. Election for Mayor Under the Supplementary Vote system, if no candidate receives 50% of 1st choice votes, 2nd choice votes are added to the result for the top two 1st choice candidates. If a ballot gives a first and second preference to the top two candidates in either order, then their second preference is not counted, so that a second preference cannot count against a first. King's Park (from May 1978 to May 2002 Kings Park) is a ward in the London Borough of Hackney and forms part of the Hackney South and Shoreditch constituency. The ward is subject to minor boundary changes taking place in May 2014. It returns three councillors. From 2014 Hackney wards are redrawn from May 2014. The new King's Park ward is mostly unchanged, expanding to the southwest to take in part of the abolished Chatham ward. Philip Glanville
Philip Glanville is a British Labour and Co-operative politician who served as the directly elected mayor of Hackney in London. Hackney councillor Philip Glanville was elected as a councillor for the Hackney London Borough Council ward of Hoxton at the 2006 election. He was re-elected in 2010. Feryal Demirci Clark (; ' Demirci; born 6 January 1979) is a British Labour Party politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Enfield North since 2019. She has also served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Digital Government since July 2024. Early life and education Feryal Demirci was born on 6 January 1979 in Malatya, Turkey to Kurdish Alevi parents with roots in Kürecik, Malatya Province. Supplementary Vote
The contingent vote is a two-stage electoral system that elects a single representative, in which the winner receives a majority of votes. It uses ranked voting. The voter ranks the candidates in order of preference, and when the votes are first counted, only first preferences are counted. If no candidate has a majority (more than half) of the votes cast, then all but the two leading candidates are eliminated and the votes that had been received by the eliminated candidates are transferred to whichever of the two remaining candidates are marked as the next preference. The contingent vote can be considered a compressed or "instant" form of the two-round system (runoff system), in which the second "round" is conducted without the need for voters to go to the polls a second time. Jules Pipe
Julian Benjamin Pipe (born May 1965) is a British politician who currently serves as the Deputy Mayor of London for Planning, Regeneration and Skills. Pipe was the first directly elected mayor of the London Borough of Hackney between his election in October 2002 and his resignation in the summer of 2016. He worked as a journalist for The Sunday Telegraph until taking on the full-time position as mayor. The council was short-listed for Council of the Year in 2010 in what was described as a "Meteoric rise".
