2014 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Award
The 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, took place on 14 December at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow. It was the 61st presentation of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Awarded annually by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the main award honours an individual's British sporting achievement over the past year, with the winner selected by public vote from a ten-person shortlist. Lewis Hamilton won the main award. The event was presented by Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan. Basis of nominations For 2014, the BBC introduced an expert panel who were asked to devise a shortlist that reflected UK sporting achievements on the national and/or international stage, represented the breadth and depth of UK sports and took into account "impact" within and beyond the sport or sporting achievement in question. The SSE Hydro
The OVO Hydro is a multi-purpose indoor arena located within the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, Scotland, and is the largest entertainment venue in Scotland. The arena was initially named The Hydro after its main sponsor Scottish Hydro Electric. The arena was known as The SSE Hydro until October 2021, when it was announced that the name was to change to "OVO Hydro", after its new sponsor OVO Energy, with a focus on making the venue more sustainable. The arena was officially opened on 30 September 2013, with a concert by Rod Stewart. The Independent
''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. 2014 Open Championship
The 2014 Open Championship was a men's major golf championship and the 143rd Open Championship, held from 17 to 20 July at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Merseyside, England. Rory McIlroy won his first Open Championship, two strokes ahead of runners-up Rickie Fowler and Sergio García, and became only the sixth to win the championship going wire-to-wire after 72 holes (being the sole leader after each round). It was McIlroy's third major title, having won the U.S. Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012; he became the first European to win three different majors and joined Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only three (since the first Masters Tournament in 1934) to win three majors by the age of 25. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. 2014 Formula One Season
The 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 68th season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 65th Formula One World Championship, a motor racing championship for Formula One cars, recognised by the sport's governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars. The season commenced in Australia on 16 March and concluded in Abu Dhabi on 23 November. Rory Daniel McIlroy (born 4 May 1989) is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland who is a member of both the European and PGA Tours. Barbara Slater (sports Producer)
Barbara Jane Slater OBE (born 10 May 1959) is an English sports producer and former gymnast who represented Great Britain at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, where she carried the British flag at the Opening Ceremonies. Slater became the BBC's first female Director of Sport in April 2009. Previous to this, she had been the BBC's Head of Production and Head of General Sports for a number of years.
