2014 Auburn, Alabama Municipal Election
The 2014 Auburn, Alabama municipal election was held on 26 August 2014. Both the mayor and all eight members of the city council were elected. The election date was announced on 3 July 2014. Mayoral election The incumbent mayor Bill Ham Jr. ran unopposed in the mayoral election. City council elections Four of the eight city council members ran unopposed, with three of those being incumbents. Ward 1 Leading up to the election, two lawsuits were filed against Clemon Byrd, claiming that his house was not in the boundary lines of Ward 1. The first lawsuit was dismissed following advice from attorney John Michael Segrest that the Lee County Circuit Court does not have the ability to remove a candidate's name form the ballot. The second lawsuit, filed by the Dowdell family, was dismissed in September 2014. Auburn City Hall in Auburn, Alabama, built in 1933, is the city hall of Auburn, Alabama. It was originally constructed as a post office in 1933, and, like many post offices constructed during the Great Depression, the building has a "starved classical" design typical of federal architecture, with symmetrical style and pointed pediments and elements of colonial revival architecture. Billy Mack Ham (February 4, 1937 – June 20, 2016) was an American music impresario, best known as the manager, producer, and image-maker for the blues-rock band ZZ Top. Ham also gained prominence in the country music world by discovering and managing multi-platinum singer-songwriter Clint Black. Career Ham began his career as a singer, releasing a single, "Wanderer," on Dot Records in 1960. ''Cash Box'' called the song a "bright rocker" with a "sensational backbeat."
