SVB Hoofdklasse
The SVB Eerste Divisie is the highest football championship for clubs run by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. The Topklasse is at the top of the system of Surinamese football championships. The league currently comprises twelve teams and operates a system of promotion and relegation. Seasons run from November to June of the next year, with teams playing 30 games in the regular season. The league was known as the Hoofdklasse but became Topklasse beginning with the 2016–17 season, and then from the 2017–18 season forward, the Eerste Divisie. The competition was founded in 1924, when Suriname was still a Dutch colony. History At the beginning of the 20th century the NGVB (Guyaneesche Dutch Football Association) was founded. The rival Suriname Football Association was founded on October 1, 1920. Inter Moengotapoe
Inter Moengotapoe (sometimes rendered Inter Moengo Tapoe or just IMT) is a Surinamese football club, based in Moengo, Marowijne between Paramaribo and the border town of Albina. They play their home matches at the Ronnie Brunswijkstadion. Inter Moego currently compete in Eerste Divisie, and finished in 1st position in the 2018–19 season. History IMT was champion of Suriname 10 times, winning every year between 2006-07 and 2018–19 except for 2007–08, 2011–12 and 2017-18. IMT has participated in the CFU Club Championship nine times, most recently in 2017 when they were eliminated in the first round, finishing runners-up in their group. Gregory Rigters
Gregory Walter Rigters (February 26, 1985 – December 4, 2017) was a Surinamese footballer. Rigters last played as a forward for Walking Boyz Company in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. He died following a traffic collision on December 4, 2017. Career Rigters began his career in the 2007–08 SVB Hoofdklasse, playing for SV Voorwaarts. After two seasons he transferred to SV The Brothers returning to his former club after two seasons. In 2013, he transferred to Walking Boyz Company finishing his first season at his new club as the league top goal scorer with 16 goals, Rigters would finish as the league's top goal scorer once more with 20 goals scored the following season. International career Rigters played for the Suriname national team having made his debut on 22 April 2009 in a friendly match against French Guiana which ended in a 0–0 draw. Walking Bout Company
S.V. Walking Boyz Company also SV WBC or WBC, is a Surinamese association football club based in Paramaribo. They have won the Surinamese Hoofdklasse title three times. The club play at the Essed Stadion with a capacity of 3,500 spectators, which is also the National Stadium and is shared with several clubs. History Walking Boyz Company were founded on 16 January 1997 in Paramaribo. Seven years later the team won its first national championship, winning the first Championship-Super Cup double in Suriname in 2004. WBC went on to win two more national titles in 2006 and 2009, winning the Super Cup (Suriname President's Cup) as well on both occasions. Sport Vereniging Leo Victor, known as SV Leo Victor, is a Surinamese football club which currently plays in the Eerste Divisie. They play their home games in Paramaribo at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion. History Founded on 9 January 1934 as a Roman Catholic sports club, S.V. Leo Victor were founded by the working community of the Leo Victor cigar factory in Paramaribo, Suriname. In 1964, Leo Victor became the first association football club of Suriname to qualify for an International CONCACAF club tournament, qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. Leo Victor made four appearances in the tournament. Sportvereniging Nationaal Leger, known as SNL, is the Surinamese football club of the national military, which currently plays in the SVB Topklasse. They play their home games in Paramaribo at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion. History Early years In 1926, the military football club M.V.V. (Militaire Voetbal Vereniging) was founded, out of which SNL amalgamated. Prior to the establishment of M.V.V. however, there was another football club of the Surinamese military, namely M.V.C.J.
