The 2013–14 Minnesota Wild season was the 14th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997. Standings Schedule and results Pre-season Regular season Playoffs The Minnesota Wild entered the playoffs as the Western Conference's first wild card. They defeated the Central Division champion Colorado Avalanche in seven games in the first round, winning all three games at the Xcel Energy Center while losing the first three at the Pepsi Center until winning game seven there on a goal by Nino Niederreiter in overtime. The Wild fell to the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round, losing in game six on an overtime goal by Patrick Kane. It was the Wild's first (and only) loss at home of the 2014 post-season. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. This list documents the records and playoff results for all seasons the Wild have completed in the NHL since their inception in 2000. 2013–14 Chicago Blackhawks Season
The 2013–14 Chicago Blackhawks season was the 88th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. The Blackhawks were attempting to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, a feat that had not been accomplished in the NHL since the Detroit Red Wings won consecutive championships in 1997 and 1998. Regular season As the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Blackhawks kicked off the 2013–14 regular season on October 1, 2013, with a 30-minute Banner Raising Ceremony at the United Center to celebrate its historical 2012–13 season. Banners were raised to mark the Blackhawks's clinch of the Central Division, Western Conference, Presidents' Trophy and the Stanley Cup Championship. Nino Niederreiter
Nino Niederreiter (born 8 September 1992) is a Swiss professional ice hockey winger for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected fifth overall by the New York Islanders in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, making him the highest-drafted Swiss hockey player in NHL history at the time (until Nico Hischier was drafted first overall in 2017). Niederreiter made his NHL debut with the Islanders early in the 2010–11 season before being returned to his junior club, the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Prior to coming to North America, Niederreiter had played in the junior system of the Swiss team HC Davos and appeared in three playoff games for the senior club in 2010. After finding difficulty securing playtime with the Islanders, Niederreiter requested a trade and subsequently was dealt to the Minnesota Wild, where he spent parts of five seasons. Pepsi Center
Ball Arena (formerly known as Pepsi Center) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Denver, Colorado. It is situated at Speer Boulevard, a main thoroughfare in downtown Denver, and is served by two nearby exits off Interstate 25. A light rail station is on the western side of the complex. 2013–14 Colorado Avalanche Season
The 2013–14 Colorado Avalanche season was the 35th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, and 19th season since the franchise relocated to Colorado to start the 1995–96 NHL season. The Avalanche managed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since the 2009–10 season. They also claimed the top spot in the division for the first time since 2003. Off-season On May 23, 2013, the Avalanche named former goaltender Patrick Roy as their new head coach and vice president of hockey operations. Regular season On October 30, 2013, goaltender Semyon Varlamov turned himself into Denver police on charges of kidnapping and assault. The charges were later dismissed. John Curry (ice Hockey)
John Clifford Curry (born February 27, 1984) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played for the Hamburg Freezers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, and with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was also part of the Penguins team when they won the Stanley Cup in 2009. Playing career Amateur John Curry played for the Breck School Mustangs, where he compiled a 1.80 GAA as team captain and MVP in his senior season of 2001–02. After graduating from Breck, Curry attended a year at the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, during which he achieved a 1.46 GAA and a .920 save percentage, and was named a New England Prep School West First Team All-Star. After high school, Curry received offers to play for numerous Division III colleges, yet enrolled at Boston University as a walk-on third-string goaltender. Ilya Bryzgalov
Ilya Nikolayevich Bryzgalov (; russian: Илья Николаевич Брызгалов; born 22 June 1980) is a Russian former professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Anaheim Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild. He was drafted by Anaheim in the second round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, 44th overall. In 2006–07, Bryzgalov won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks. Internationally, he has earned a bronze medal with Russia at the 2002 Winter Olympics, and a silver medal at the 2000 World Junior Championships. Bryzgalov also competed in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and is a three-time Olympian. Darcy Kuemper
Darcy Kuemper (born May 5, 1990) is a Canadians, Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round, 161st overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has also played in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche. Kuemper won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022 Stanley Cup Finals, 2022. Competing internationally with Canada men's national ice hockey team, Team Canada, he won gold at the 2021 IIHF World Championship. Johan Gustafsson
Johan Gustafsson (born 28 February 1992) is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League (DEL). Playing career Johan played for Västerås HK in the 2010–11 season, with Luleå HF for the next two seasons and has also played 3 SHL games with Färjestad BK. He was drafted 159th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. After an SHL rookie season where Gustafsson had five shutouts in his first 20 games with Luleå he was nominated for the 2011–12 SHL Rookie of the Year award. Approaching the deadline to retain Gustafsson rights, the Wild signed Gustafsson to a three-year, entry-level contract in May 2012. 2013–14 Winnipeg Jets Season
The 2013–14 Winnipeg Jets season was the 15th season for the National Hockey League franchise and the third in Winnipeg. The franchise played in Atlanta since the 1999–2000 NHL season, and relocated to Winnipeg following the conclusion of the 2010–11 NHL season. Regular season The Jets relieved Head Coach Claude Noel of coaching duties on January 12, 2014, and replaced him with Paul Maurice. At the time of the coaching change, the Jets were out of the playoff picture holding a 19–23–5 record. The Jets won their first four games and went 8–2–0 in their first ten games with Maurice, climbing back into the Western Conference playoff hunt.
