2013 MEAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament took place March 11–16, 2013 at the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia. The tournament winner, North Carolina A&T, received an automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA tournament. 2013 was the first year in Norfolk after the last eight years in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. First Round games were played on March 11 and March 12, with the Quarterfinal games played March 13 and March 14. The semifinals were held March 15, with the Championship game being played on March 16. ESPNU televised the Championship Game. Norfolk Scope
Norfolk Scope is a multi-function complex in Norfolk, Virginia, comprising an 11,000-person arena, a 2,500-person theater known as Chrysler Hall, a exhibition hall and a 600-car parking garage. The arena was designed by Italian architect/engineer Pier Luigi Nervi in conjunction with the (now defunct) local firm Williams and Tazewell, which designed the entire complex. Nervi's design for the arena's reinforced concrete dome derived from the PalaLottomatica and the much smaller Palazzetto dello Sport, which were built in the 1950s for the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Construction on Scope began in June 1968 at the northern perimeter of Norfolk's downtown and was completed in 1971 at a cost of $35 million. Federal funds covered $23 million of the cost, and when it opened formally on November 12, 1971, the structure was the second-largest public complex in Virginia, behind only the Pentagon. 2012–13 South Carolina State Bulldogs Basketball Team
The 2012–13 South Carolina State Bulldogs basketball team represented South Carolina State University during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bulldogs, led by sixth year head coach Tim Carter, played their home games at the SHM Memorial Center and were members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Murray Garvin became head coach when head coach Tim Carter resigned midway through the 2012-2013 season. The team finished the season 6–24, 2–14 in MEAC play to finish in a tie for twelfth place. The MEAC men's basketball tournament (popularly known as the MEAC tournament) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
