2013 French Polynesian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in French Polynesia on 21 April and 5 May 2013. The result was a victory for the Tahoera'a Huiraatira party, which won 38 of the 57 seats in the Assembly. Electoral system The election was held using a two round system. In the first round, parties were required to cross a threshold of 12.5% in order to participate in the second round, although parties receiving between 5% and 12.5% were allowed to form an alliance for the second round with a party that did qualify. The Assembly of French Polynesia (french: Assemblée de la Polynésie française, Tahitian: Te apo'ora'a rahi o te fenua Mā'ohi) is the unicameral legislature of French Polynesia, an overseas country of the French Republic. It is located at Place Tarahoi in Pape'ete, Tahiti. It was established in its current form in 1996 although a Tahitian Assembly was first created in 1824. It consists of 57 members who are elected by popular vote for five years; the electoral system is based upon proportional representation in six multi-seat constituencies. Every constituency is represented by at least three representatives. Since 2001, the parity bill binds that the number of women matches the number of men elected to the Assembly. French Polynesia elects the Assembly of French Polynesia (''Assemblée de la Polynésie française''), the unicameral legislature on the territorial level. The Assembly of French Polynesia has 57 members, elected for a five-year term by proportional representation in multi-seat constituencies. French Polynesia has a two-party system, which means that there are two dominant political parties, with extreme difficulty for anybody to achieve electoral success under the banner of any other party. In June 2011, the electoral law will likely be changed again, with a two-round proportional system including a bonus of a third of the seats for the winning list in the second round, with the rest of the seats distributed proportionally; the electoral threshold to advance to the second round will be 12.5%. List Of Members Of The Assembly Of French Polynesia (2013–2018)
Members of the Assembly of French Polynesia were elected on 21 April and 5 May 2013. According to second-round results, the 57 representatives consisted of 38 representatives of Tahoera'a Huiraatira, 11 for the Union for Democracy, and 8 for A Tia Porinetia. Members Changes * In September 2014 Édouard Fritch was elected president, and was replaced by Alice Tinorua. Nicole Sanquer, Tearii Alpha, Nuihau Laurey, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, Frédéric Riveta, and René Temeharo were subsequently appointed to his Cabinet, and were replaced by Juliette Nuupure, Putai Taae, Fernand Tahiata, Evans Haumani, Michel Leboucher, and Maina Sage. * In January 2017 Nicole Bouteau left the Assembly after being appointed Minister of Tourism. O Porinetia To Tatou Ai'a
‘O Pōrīnetia To Tātou ‘Ai‘a ("Polynesia, a Homeland for us all") was a French Polynesian anti-independence political party founded by Gaston Tong Sang on 1 October 2007 after he split from his former party, the Tāhō‘ēra‘a Huira‘atira. It had six members in the French Polynesian assembly, all former Taheora'a Huiraatira members. It presented a joint list called "To Tātou ‘Ai‘a" (Homeland for us all) together with other autonomist parties in the January 2008 elections. The Tapura Amui No Tuhaa Pae, ( en, Austral Archipelago Union List) (also known as Tapura Amui No Te Faatereraa Manahune) was a political party in French Polynesia. They had a left political leaning, and advocated for French Polynesian independence. The party small in their scope, only lasting between the years of 2001 and 2018, and only taking part in 4 elections with a single representative, Chantal Florès-Tahiata, in all elections. Chantal Florès-Tahiata was also the mayor of Tubuai. They were largely created for the Tapura Amui no te Faatereraa Manahune - Tuhaa Pae coalition. The Tapura Amui No Te Faatereraa Manahune – Tuhaa Pae was a short lived political coalition in French Polynesia for the 2004 French Polynesian legislative election, specifically for the Austral Islands. The coalition was between the parties of Tapura Amui no Tuhaa Pae, Union for the Democracy (''Union pour la Démocratie''), Heiura-Les Verts, and Fetia Api. The coalition organised a political advertisement campaign for the 2004. The dates for broadcasts in 2004 took place at an unknown date, but occurred on the Austral Islands. All members of the coalition had separate broadcasts outside the coalition in 2004. Here Ai’a ( en, Love of the Land), also known as Te Pupu Here Ai'a Te Nunaa ia Ora ( en, Patriotic Group for an Autonomous Polity), is a pro-independence political party in French Polynesia. It was founded by John Teariki and Henri Bouvier in 1965 following the banning of the pro-independence Democratic Rally of the Tahitian People (RDPT) by the colonial French government. Supported mainly by rural Polynesians, the party was a significant force in French Polynesian politics from its foundation until the early 1980's, before entering a decline following Teariki's death in 1983. The party is currently led by Gustave Taputu. The party was founded on 9 February 1965.
