2012 Tour Of California
The 2012 Amgen Tour of California was the seventh running of the Tour of California cycling stage race. It was held from May 13–20, and was rated as a 2.HC event on the UCI America Tour. It began in Santa Rosa and concluded in front of Los Angeles's Staples Center after eight stages. As per the Union Cycliste Internationale rules adopted in 2011, the use of race radios was prohibited, since only the events which are designated UCI World Tour events can use the devices. The event was marked by two major performances: 's Robert Gesink winning Stage 7 finishing in Mount Baldy to secure the overall classification victory and Peter Sagan of dominating the sprint finishes, taking 5 stage wins and the sprinter jersey. UCI America Tour
The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world. The five circuits (representing the continents of Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania) are ranked below the UCI World Tour. UCI Africa Tour Winners There is a rolling ranking for individuals and countries (the total of the top eight ranked riders of the nation), for which points can be won in all UCI road events, regardless of where the races take place. Prior to 2019 there was also a team ranking, and in all three categories points were earned in continental races of category HC or below (1.1 and 2.1 or below from 2020) that took place in Africa, regardless of the nationality of the rider. Mount San Antonio
Mount San Antonio, commonly referred to as Mount Baldy or Old Baldy, is a summit in the San Gabriel Mountains on the border of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties of California. Lying within the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and Angeles National Forest, it is the highest point within the mountain range, the County of Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Mount San Antonio's sometimes snow-capped peaks are visible on clear days and dominate the view of the Los Angeles Basin skyline. The peak and a subsidiary one to the west form a double summit of a steep-sided east–west ridge. The summit is accessible via a number of connecting ridges along hiking trails from the north, east, south, and southwest. Fred Rodriguez
Fred "Freddie" Rodriguez (born September 3, 1973) is an American former professional road racing cyclist. His nickname, ''Fast Freddie'', is due to his reputation as a sprint specialist. Rodriguez won the United States National Road Race Championships four times, and won four stages at the Tour de Georgia. He competed in the men's individual road race at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Other notable results include high stage finishes in all three Grand Tours as well as second places in both in both Milan–San Remo and Gent–Wevelgem in 2002. Rodriguez participated in all three Grand Tours including the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España one time each where he had multiple stage podiums in the Vuelta and won stage 9 of the 2004 Giro d'Italia. He started the Tour de France seven times finishing it twice, and while he never won any stages he was often competitive on sprint stages with several top 5's. Heinrich Haussler
Heinrich Haussler (born 25 February 1984) is an Australian former road racing cyclist of German heritage, who competed as a professional from 2004 to April 2023. He won 2 stages in Grand Tours during his career, one at the 2005 Vuelta a España and another at the 2009 Tour de France. He was also a good Classics specialist, registering top results in notable classic races, and was the 2015 Australian national road race champion. He was the winner of the 2022 UAE Al Salam championship. Daniel Oss (born 13 January 1987) is an Italian cyclist, who competes in gravel cycling for the Specialized Gravel team. Between 2009 and 2023, Oss competed professionally in road bicycle racing, with , the , and . Jeff Louder (born December 8, 1977) is an American former professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2000 and 2014 for the , , and teams. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Louder won the 2008 Tour of Utah, and took part in the 2010 Giro d'Italia. Maxime Bouet
Maxime Bouet (born 3 November 1986) is a French former road racing cyclist, who competed as a professional from 2008 to 2023. Career Early years Born in Belley, Ain, Bouet participated at the French national track and road championships as a junior in 2003. At the track championships he won the silver medal in the individual pursuit, while at the road championships he took the bronze medal at the individual time trial. In the following year (2004) he improved both results, winning the gold medal in the individual pursuit and the silver medal in the individual time trial. Benjamin Jacques-Maynes (born September 22, 1978) is an American former road bicycle racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2002 and 2015 for the Sierra Nevada–Cannondale, and teams. His identical twin brother, Andy Jacques-Maynes, also competed professionally and was also part of the team in 2011. Career In the 2009 Nevada City Classic in California, Jacques-Maynes took second, from a three-man break that included race-winner Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer. King Of The Mountains
The King of the Mountains (KoM) is an award given to the best climbing specialist in a men's cycling road race; in women's cycle racing, Queen of the Mountains (QoM) is used. While the title may be given to the rider who achieves the highest position over several designated climbs in a single-day road race, it is more usually applied to stage races (for example, the Grand Tours, Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España) where points are accumulated over the duration of the whole race. In the Tour de France, where it is officially known as the Mountains classification, at the top of each significant climb, points are awarded to the riders who are first over the top. The climbs are categorised from 1 (most difficult) to 4 (least difficult) based on their steepness and length. David Boily
David Boily (born April 28, 1990) is a Canadian former professional cyclist. In the 2012 Tour of California, Boily held the red jersey awarded for the best climber for the first two stages before fellow Canadian Sebastian Salas () took it from him on Stage 3. Boily stated that he was ready to fight to regain the jersey, and he did battle by raking in more points for the mountain classification, but ultimately Salas kept the lead with a total of 65 points, Boily finishing in second position with 48.
