2012 Redditch Borough Council Election
The 2012 Redditch Borough Council election for the Redditch Borough Council was held on 3 May 2012. All Council wards, apart from Abbey, Astwood Bank & Feckenham, and Crabbs Cross & Rural wards, voted in the local elections. In the Church Hill ward, two councillors were up for election, due to a by-election which was called after the death of Labour Party (UK), Labour councillor Robin King, who died in February 2012. Election results All parties received fewer votes compared to 2011. This is probably due to low turnouts across Redditch and because Astwood Bank & Feckenham ward and Crabbs Cross & Rural Ward were not voting. These wards normally have higher than average turnouts. Redditch Wards 2012
Redditch is a town, and Non-metropolitan district, local government district, in north-east Worcestershire, England, approximately south of Birmingham. The district has a population of 85,000 as of 2019. In the 19th century, it became the international centre for the Sewing needle, needle and Fish hook, fishing tackle industry. At one point, 90% of the world's needles were manufactured in the town and its neighbourhoods. In the 1960s, it became a model for modern new town planning. History The first recorded mention of Redditch (''Red-Ditch'', thought to be a reference to the red clay of the nearby River Arrow, Worcestershire, River Arrow) is in 1348, the year of the outbreak of the Black Death. Redditch Borough Council
Redditch Borough Council is the local authority covering the non-metropolitan district centred on the town of Redditch. History The town of Redditch was governed by a local board of health from 1858 until 1894, when such local boards were reformed to become urban district councils. The urban district in turn was abolished in 1974 and replaced by a non-metropolitan district council covering the same area as the former urban district, but with different powers and responsibilities. The Redditch district was awarded borough status on 15 May 1980, changing the council's name to Redditch Borough Council and allowing the chair of the council to take the title of mayor. Astwood Bank
Astwood Bank is a district within Redditch. Astwood Bank is near the Warwickshire - Worcestershire border, near villages such as Studley, Sambourne, Callow Hill, Feckenham, and Cookhill. Astwood Bank is noted for its successful cricket team, who have twice played at Lord's in the National Village Knock Out Final. The A441 Evesham Road is the main trunk road through Astwood Bank from Redditch. Astwood Bank has an annual carnival. The carnival has been a big part of the village for over 30 years. Feckenham
Feckenham is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Redditch in Worcestershire, England. It lies some south-west of the town of Redditch and some east of the city of Worcester. It had a population of 670 in the 2001 census and its immediate area is the location of notable royal manors that cover over 1,000 years of English history documented in many royal charters and Acts of Parliament. Redditch Borough Council elections are held three years out of every four, with a third of the council elected each time. Redditch Borough Council is the local authority for the non-metropolitan district of Redditch in Worcestershire, England. Since the last boundary changes in 2004, 29 councillors are elected from 12 wards. Political control From 1894 to 1974 the town of Redditch was governed by an urban district council. Under the Local Government Act 1972 Redditch became a non-metropolitan district, retaining the same boundaries as the old urban district, but with significantly different powers.
