2011 Louisiana Elections
Louisiana's 2011 state elections were held on October 22, 2011, with runoff elections held on November 19. All statewide elected offices were up, as well as all seats in the Louisiana State Legislature. Statewide offices Governor Incumbent Governor Bobby Jindal, a Republican, ran for a second term, and faced only token opposition. He was expected to win by a wide margin, and ended up winning with nearly 66% of the vote. Lieutenant governor Incumbent Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne was elected in a 2010 special election, and was elected to a full term. Jim Donelon
James Joseph Donelon III is an American politician. He served as the Louisiana Insurance Commissioner from 2006 to 2024. He previously served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1981 to 2001. Early life and education Donelon grew up in New Orleans and attended Jesuit High School. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of New Orleans and his Juris Doctor from the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. Political career Donelon began his career in public office serving on the Jefferson Parish Council from 1978 to 1980. From 1982 to 2001, he served as a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. The Louisiana State Senate (; ) is the upper house of Louisiana’s legislature. Senators serve four-year terms and participate in various committees. Composition The Louisiana State Senate has 39 members elected from single-member districts. Candidates must be registered voters, at least 18 years old, residents of their district for one year, and Louisiana residents for two years. Senate elections use a nonpartisan primary system with runoffs if needed. Elections to the Senate occur every four years and senators are limited to three four-year terms (12 years). John Neely Kennedy (born November 21, 1951) is an American politician and attorney who has served as the Seniority in the United States Senate, junior United States senator from Louisiana since 2017. James Wayne "Jim" Tucker (born November 11, 1964) is an American politician and businessman who served as a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing the 86th District from 2002 to 2012. He served as Speaker of the House from 2008 to 2012, succeeding Joe R. Salter and preceding Chuck Kleckley. Tucker was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University (LSU) and later graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in finance. Bobby Jindal
Piyush "Bobby" Jindal (born June 10, 1971) is an American politician who served as the 55th governor of Louisiana from 2008 to 2016.
