2011 Indian Rajya Sabha Elections
Rajya Sabha elections were held on various dates in 2011, to elect members of the Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. The elections were held on 22 July to elect respectively 1 member from Goa, 3 members from Gujarat and 6 members from West Bengal for the Council of States, the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha
The Rajya Sabha, wikisource:Constitution of India/Part V#Article 80, constitutionally the Council of States, is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. , it has a maximum membership of 245, of which 233 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through open ballots, while the President of India, president can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services. Revolutionary Socialist Party (India)
Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) is a communist party in India. The party was founded on 19 March 1940 by Tridib Chaudhuri and has its roots in the Bengali liberation movement Anushilan Samiti and the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. Brinda Karat
Brinda Karat (born 17 October 1947) is an Indian politician, elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Communist Party of India (Marxist) member on 11 April 2005 for West Bengal. In 2005, she became the first woman member of the CPI(M) Politburo. She has also been the general secretary of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) from 1993 to 2004, and thereafter its vice-president. Early life and education Karat was born on 17 October 1947 in Calcutta, West Bengal, India to Oshrukona Mitra, and Suraj Lall Das. Her mother was Bengali, and her father was a Punjabi refugee from the newly-created Pakistan. Swapan Sadhan Bose, also known as Tutu Bose (born 23 January 1948), is an Indian politician from All India Trinamool Congress who was a Member of the Parliament of India representing West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament. Mohammed Amin (politician)
Mohammed Amin (15 April 1928 – 12 February 2018) was an Indian politician from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the largest communist party in India. He was a Vice President of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions. He was a member of the Parliament of India representing West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament from 1988-1994. He was also the All India General Secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, the workers union politically affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Derek O’Brien (born 13 March 1961) is an Indian politician, television personality and quiz master. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association.
