2011 Delta State Gubernatorial By-election
The 2011 Delta State gubernatorial by-election was the 1st gubernatorial by-election of Delta State after the 2007 Delta State gubernatorial election was annulled. Held on January 6, 2011, the People's Democratic Party nominee Emmanuel Uduaghan won the election, defeating Great Ogboru of the Democratic People's Party. Results A total of 15 candidates contested in the election. Emmanuel Uduaghan from the People's Democratic Party won the election, defeating Great Ogboru from the Democratic People's Party. Registered voters was 1,548,647, valid votes was 433,312, votes cast was 450,376, 17,064 votes was cancelled. Emmanuel Uduaghan
Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan (born 22 October 1954) is a retired Nigerian politician and doctor who served as Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015. He assumed office via an inconclusive election on 29 May 2007 and was a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He was reelected in 2011. A medical doctor by profession, prior to becoming governor, he was the Commissioner for Health, Delta State and the Secretary to the State Government. Background Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan was born on 22 October 1954 in Warri North Local Government Area in Delta State of Itsekiri origin. He attended Federal Government College, Warri (1968–1974), and the University of Benin (1975–1980) earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree, and a Diploma in Anaesthesia. Democratic People's Party (Nigeria)
The Democratic People's Party is a Nigerian political party founded in 2006 by an aggrieved faction of the All Nigeria Peoples Party. The party, which has a broad political base, supports economic deregulation, human rights; and greater funding for health care and education, among other goals. In the 21 April 2007 presidential elections, the winner was Umaru Musa Yar'Adua of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 24,638,063 votes. Great Ovedje Ogboru (born 10 April 1958) is a Nigerian businessman and politician who was the gubernatorial candidate for the Alliance of Democracy, the Democratic Peoples' Party and the Labour Party in the 2003, 2007 and 2015 Delta State governorship elections. He was also the gubernatorial nominee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 Delta State governorship elections. Early life and education Ogboru was born on 10 April 1958 in Port Harcourt. Ogboru received early education at Municipal Primary School, Port Harcourt, but left the city to continue studies at a primary school in Abraka. Delta State
Delta is a States of Nigeria, state in the South South (Nigeria), South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Named after the Niger Delta—a large part of which is in the state—the state was formed from the former Bendel State, on 27 August 1991.
