This is a list of Australian television events and premieres which occurred, or were scheduled to occur, in 2010. The year 2010 will be the 55th year of continuous operation of television in Australia. Events * 25 January – Sunrise launches its new analogue-styled on-air package, which is used until January 2016. * 8 February – Seven News launches its new look in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Seven News has a block mark which carries the big red 7 with the word "NEWS" written on it – these are still unchanged to this indefinite date. * 9 February – '' The Circle'' begins broadcasting on Network Ten. Hey Hey It's Saturday
''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' is a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years on the Nine Network from 9 October 1971 to 20 November 1999, with a recess in 1978. Its host throughout its entire run was Daryl Somers, who later also became executive producer of the program. The original producer, Gavan Disney, left the program in December 1990 and Somers then formed a production company, Somers Carroll Productions, with comedy writer and on-screen partner Ernie Carroll, the performer of Somers' pink ostrich puppet sidekick Ossie Ostrich. Carroll retired in 1994, and Ossie was no longer featured in the show. On 25 July 2009, the Nine Network announced the show would return for two reunion specials in late 2009 and hinted if they rated strongly, the show could return full-time. Nightline (Australian News Program)
''Nightline'' was an Australian late-night news bulletin television program produced by ''Nine News'' for Nine Network. Introduced in 1985 as a 5-minute late-night news summary before becoming a 30-minute bulletin in 1992, it was cancelled in 2008, then was brought back in 2009 before it was cancelled again in July 2010. It aired at around on weeknights, but was not shown in Perth or Adelaide. ''Nightline'' was previously presented by Kellie Sloane. Its main competitors were '' Ten Late News'' and ABC News's ''Lateline'', both of which aired prior to ''Nightline'' at . The series was patterned after the version that airs on ABC (US), but that one is different from the Australian counterpart even though at one point both versions used the same opening graphics, which both no longer use. Sunraysia
Sunraysia is a region located in northwestern Victoria and southwestern New South Wales in Australia. The region is renowned for its sunshine, intensive horticulture including grapes and oranges. Its main centre is Mildura, Victoria. The area of Victoria to the west of Sunraysia is known as the Millewa, the main distinction being that Sunraysia is the irrigated area and the Millewa is the dryland cropping area. Sunraysia is mostly contained in the Murray Darling wine region. Sunraysia is sometimes incorrectly referred to as an economic region. Etymology The name ''Sunraysia'' derives from a contest that entrepreneur Jack De Garis held in 1919, as part of a promotion on behalf of the Australian Dried Fruits Association. The public were invited to submit a name to describe the dried fruits grown in the Mildura area. Mildura
Mildura ( ) is a regional city in north-west Victoria, Australia. Located on the Victorian side of the Murray River, Mildura had a population of 34,565 at the 2021 census. When nearby Wentworth, Irymple, Nichols Point, Merbein and Red Cliffs are included, the combined urban area had a population of 58,914 in 2021, having grown marginally at an average annual rate of 1.3% year-on-year over the preceding five years. Mildura is the largest settlement in the Sunraysia region, where around 90% of Australia's table grape exports are grown. Australia's Got Talent
''Australia's Got Talent'' is an Australian reality television talent show. The show is based on the '' Got Talent'' series format that originated in the United Kingdom with Simon Cowell. The first six seasons aired on the Seven Network, from 2007 to 2012. In the first season the judges were Tom Burlinson, Red Symons and Dannii Minogue. The first season aired at 6:30pm on Sunday nights. After a successful run, the series was given a vote of confidence as Seven moved the show to a more competitive Tuesday night timeslot. The second season aired from 29 April 2008. Burlinson and Symons did not return for season four and were replaced by Kyle Sandilands and Brian McFadden. For season seven in 2013 the show moved to the Nine Network. Dawn French, Geri Halliwell and Timomatic who is the additional fourth judge joined the panel as replacements for McFadden and Minogue. Australia's Got Talent Season 4
''Australia's Got Talent'' is an Australian reality television show, based on the original UK series, to find new talent. The fourth season premiered on the Seven Network on 13 April 2010 and ended on 15 June 2010. Radio DJ Kyle Sandilands and Irish singer Brian McFadden joined the judging panel as replacements for Tom Burlinson and Red Symons. Auditions took place throughout February 2010 and were held in the five major cities across Australia. The live shows began on 11 May 2010 and ended on 15 June 2010, where dance troupe Justice Crew were crowned the winners of the fourth season of ''Australia's Got Talent''. Justice Crew
Justice Crew is an Australian dance and music group consisting of John and Len Pearce, Lukas Bellesini, Paul Merciadez, Samson Smith, and Solo Tohi. Although the group is Australian, members Samson and Solo are from New Zealand. The group originally formed in 2009 as a dance troupe and rose to fame the following year as winners of the fourth season of ''Australia's Got Talent''. Justice Crew subsequently signed a record deal with Sony Music Australia and became recording artists. As of 2018, they are an independent music group. Justice Crew's first three singles " And Then We Dance", " Friday to Sunday" and " Dance with Me" achieved moderate success on the ARIA Singles Chart. The show was a spin-off of ''Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'' and began airing on the Nine Network on 20 April 2009. ''Deal or No Deal'' is an Australian game show which originally broadcast on the Seven Network from 13 July 2003 to 4 October 2013, hosted by Andrew O'Keefe. On 29 January 2024, a reboot series premiered on Network 10, hosted by Grant Denyer. It was the first international version of the game show, after the original from the Netherlands. It was the first of the versions to use the ''Deal or No Deal'' name. Many changes were made to ''Deal or No Deal'' during its run. Ray Meagher
Raymond Francis Meagher (born 4 July 1944) is an Australian actor, who has appeared in Australian film and television since the mid-1970s. He is notable as the longest continuing performer in an Australian television role, portraying Alf Stewart on ''Home and Away'', having played the role since the first episode in 1988. Meagher won a Gold Logie Award for his role in ''Home and Away'' in 2010 and has currently played the role of Alf for over 37 years. Early life Meagher was born and raised on a sheep and cattle station in Queensland, before attending a boarding school on the Gold Coast from the age of nine. He became a keen sportsman at high school, Marist College Ashgrove in Brisbane, representing the school at a number of sports including rugby union, a sport which he ultimately played at state level.
