2010 State Basketball League Season
The 2010 State Basketball League season was the 22nd season of the State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 12 March and ended on Saturday 17 July. The finals began on Friday 23 July and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 20 August and the men's grand final on Saturday 21 August. Pre-season In 2010, the SBL held a pre-season tournament for the first time since 2003. The 2010 SBL Pre-Season Blitz was held at Ray Owen Sports Centre in Kalamunda between Friday 26 February and Sunday 28 February. Regular season The regular season began on Friday 12 March and ended on Saturday 17 July after 19 rounds of competition. State Basketball League
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. Rockingham Flames
Rockingham Flames is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of the Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association (RBRA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Flames play their home games at Mike Barnett Sports Complex. Club history In the early 1970s, Rockingham and Districts Basketball Association was established. The Rockingham Flames made their debut in the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1992 in the form of a women's team, becoming the first club to introduce a women's program before a men's program. In 1994, a Rockingham Flames men's team entered the Men's SBL. Ben Beran
Benjamin Beran (born October 1, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits before playing professionally in Germany and Australia. He was named Most Valuable Player of the State Basketball League (SBL) in 2013 and helped the Lakeside Lightning win the SBL championship the same year. Early life Beran was born in Victor, Iowa, where he attended Hartwick-Ladora-Victor High School. Tom Jervis
Thomas Lachlan Jervis (born 4 February 1987) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Rockingham Flames of the NBL1 West. He played college basketball for Bevill State Community College and Troy University in the United States before debuting in the National Basketball League (NBL). He won two NBL championships with the Perth Wildcats between 2013 and 2016. After two seasons with the Brisbane Bullets, Jervis returned to the Wildcats in 2018 and won his third championship. He retired from basketball in 2019 but made a comeback in January 2021 to re-join the Wildcats. All grand finals have been played in a one-game championship decider, except in 1995 when a best-of-three series was used. Jarrad Prue
Jarrad Prue (born 11 February 1982) is an Australian former basketball player. He played 15 seasons with the Lakeside Lightning of the NBL1 West between 2003 and 2021 and won three List of State Basketball League champions, championships. He is the NBL1 West's all-time leading rebounder. Prue had a three-game stint with the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) in 2013, and in 2020 was appointed president of the Lakeside Lightning. Daniel Johnson (basketball)
Daniel Geoffrey Craig Johnson (born 3 April 1988) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Forestville Eagles of the NBL1 Central. He debuted in the National Basketball League (NBL) in 2008 with the Melbourne Tigers. After two seasons, he joined the Adelaide 36ers where he played the next 13 seasons. Perry Lakes Basketball Stadium was a purpose-built basketball stadium located in Perth, Western Australia. The stadium was built for the Australian Basketball Senior Men's Championships held in October 1962, and was Western Australia's home of basketball until 2010. At the time of construction, the stadium featured three courts and had no second stand facing Court 1. Courts 2 and 3 had bitumen surfaces and ran parallel to the other courts. The WA Basketball Centre (also known by its sponsored name, the Bendat Basketball Centre) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Perth, Western Australia, catering primarily for basketball. The stadium features eight multi-sport courts, including two show courts with 1,100 permanent seats and 900 retractable seats primarily used for basketball.
