Douglas Friend Gansler (born October 30, 1962) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 45th Attorney General of Maryland. Gansler previously served as the State's Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland, from 1999 to 2007. He won nomination in the state Democratic primary election for Attorney General and defeated Republican Scott Rolle in the 2006 general election, taking 61% of the vote. Garrett County, Maryland
Garrett County () is the westernmost county of the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,806, making it the third-least populous county in Maryland. Its county seat is Oakland. The county was named for John Work Garrett (1820–1884), president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Created from Allegany County, Maryland in 1872, it was the last Maryland county to be formed. Garrett County has long been part of the media market of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Elections were held in Maryland on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Primary elections were held on September 14, 2010. Federal United States Senate Incumbent Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski ran for re-election against Republican Eric Wargotz and many third-party and independent candidates. She previously won senate elections in 1986, 1992, 1998, and 2004 by margins of 21, 42, 41 and 31 percentage points, respectively. She won the Democratic primary with token opposition and defeated Republican Eric Wargotz 62%-38%. With her victory and service to the end of her term in January 2017, Mikulski tied Paul Sarbanes as the longest-serving senator in state history, and also becoming the longest-serving female senator in history.
