2009–10 Saudi Pro League
The 2009–10 Saudi Professional League (known as the Zain Professional League for sponsorship reasons) was the 34th season of the Saudi Pro League, the top Saudi professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1976. The season began on 18 August 2009, and ended on 18 March 2010. Al-Ittihad were the defending champions. Al Hilal secured the title with a 2–0 win away to Al-Hazem on 24 January 2010. Al Hilal won the league with three games to spare. Al Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al Shabab and Al Nassr all secured a berth for the 2011 AFC Champions League. No teams were relegated at the end of the season following the decision to increase the number of teams from 12 to 14. The Saudi Pro League (SPL), also known as the Roshn Saudi League (RSL) for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Saudi Arabia and the highest level of the Saudi football league system. The SPL is regarded as the premier football league in Asia, having the highest ranking among AFC club competitions. The origins of the Saudi top division league trace back to the establishment of the His Majesty's League in 1956, which lasted until 1974. The Prince Mohammad bin Fahd Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. History Mohammad bin Fahd Stadium was built in 1973 and named after Mohammad bin Fahd, the former governor of the Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, Eastern Province. It was the first football stadium in the province. The venue is used mostly for football matches and has been the home stadium of the local clubs Al-Ettifaq FC, Al-Ettifaq and Al-Nahda Club (Saudi Arabia), Al-Nahda. Al Fateh Sports Club () is a Saudi Arabian multi-sports club based in Al-Mubarraz, Al-Ahsa. It is mainly known for its professional football club. Abha Club
Abha Football Club () is a professional Saudi football club based in Abha that is currently playing in the Saudi First Division League, the second tier of Saudi football. They were first promoted to the top flight in 2005 when they finished as runners up in the First Division. However, they were relegated after just one season.
