2009 D.C. United Season
The 2009 D.C. United season was the fourteenth season of the team's existence. It began on March 22, 2009, with a 2–2 draw at the Los Angeles Galaxy and ended on October 22, 2009, at the Kansas City Wizards by the same 2–2 scoreline. Off-season D.C. United was involved in the following off-season activity: Draft The 2009 MLS SuperDraft took place on January 15, 2009. With draft order determined by regular and post-season record, United received the sixth pick in each round. Tom Soehn
Tom Soehn (born April 15, 1966) is an American soccer coach who is the head coach of USL Championship club Birmingham Legion. A former player, his career as a defender spanned seven clubs across 12 seasons, both indoors and outdoors. Playing career Youth and college Soehn was born to immigrant parents. His parents moved to the United States from Germany, but his father was born in Romania. Soehn began playing soccer with the Chicago Kickers when he was four. He attended Forest View High School. He attended Western Illinois University from 1984 to 1987. In 2003, Western Illinois inducted Soehn into its Athletics Hall of Fame. Indoor soccer Soehn signed with the Wichita Wings of Major Indoor Soccer League from 1988 to 1992. He moved to the Denver Thunder of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) for the 1992–1993 season before returning to the Wings in 1993 which were now playing in the NPSL. UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Men's Soccer
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's soccer team is an NCAA Division I college soccer team composed of student-athletes attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. The Gauchos play their home matches at Harder Stadium. Like most of the other UC Santa Barbara Gauchos athletic teams, the men's soccer team competes in the Big West Conference. The UCSB Gauchos won the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. The program has produced a total of 19 All-American selections, all but one of which since 2002, and over 60 players who have gone on to play professionally or represent their senior national teams. Devon McTavish
Devon McTavish (born August 8, 1984 in Winchester, Virginia) is a retired American soccer player. He played his entire professional career from 2006 to 2011 for D.C. United in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college McTavish attended James Wood High School and played club soccer for the Chantilly-based FC Cannons under coach Mike Volpe. McTavish played college soccer for West Virginia University from 2002 to 2005. He is ranked third all-time in school history with 75 appearances for the Mountaineers. He scored 13 goals for West Virginia, including five game-winners. In 2004, he spent the collegiate off season with the Boulder Rapids Reserve of the Premier Development League. Professional McTavish was selected in the fourth round 43rd overall in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft by D.C. United. He made his first appearance for D.C. Francis Doe
Francis Forkey Doe (born 25 December 1985) is a Liberian former professional footballer. Club career Doe began his career in the Cameroon Première Division in 2002, playing for Tonnerre Yaoundé. Doe was voted best foreign player and third best overall player (as voted on by the Cameroon Football Federation and the Cameroon Sports Writers Association), and in doing so became the second Liberian player to win the Cameroonian First Division foreign player of the year award, the first being former world footballer of the year George Weah who received the award more than a decade ago. Marc Burch
Marc Burch (born May 7, 1984 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American soccer player. Career College and amateur Burch played college soccer at the University of Evansville for three seasons from 2002–2004, scoring seven goals and assisting on 22 along the way, and spent the summer months playing for the Cleveland Internationals in the USL Premier Development League. After the 2004 season he transferred to the University of Maryland, where he would become a crucial member of the Terrapin squad that won the College Cup, even scoring the game-winning goal in the championship against New Mexico. Santino Quaranta
Santino Quaranta (born October 14, 1984) is an American former soccer player. Career Youth Quaranta partially attended Baltimore's Archbishop Curley High School for his freshman and sophomore years, where he started both years, and was recognized as one of the top soccer players in the state. Quaranta did not play college soccer, and instead spent time with the US U-17 national team at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he achieved exceptional success. Professional Quaranta was drafted eighth overall in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United. Chicago Fire U-23 was an American soccer team based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Founded in 2001, the team last played in the PDL, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. They last played in 2016, choosing to leave the PDL. The team played its home games at the artificial turf practice field adjacent to Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Brandon Barklage (born November 2, 1986) is an American soccer player. Career Youth and college During Barklage's youth career he primarily played for Lou Fusz S.C. In 2004, he led Scott Gallagher to a USYSA national championship. Barklage also attended Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) in St. Louis. Barklage played college soccer at the University of New Mexico and at St. Louis University.
