2009 Binghamton Shooting
On April 3, 2009, a mass shooting occurred at the American Civic Association (Binghamton), American Civic Association Immigration to the United States, immigration center in Binghamton, New York. At approximately 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time Zone, EDT, Jiverly Antares Wong (also known as Jiverly Voong) entered the facility and killed thirteen people and wounded four others before committing suicide. The American Civic Association is an Immigration to the United States, immigration services organization located in Binghamton, New York, that provides community integration services to immigrants and refugees in the Greater Binghamton region. It is unrelated to a former national organization and entity American Civic Association, of the same name from the early 20th century. The organization's services include refugee resettlement; citizenship classes; assistance with citizenship and green card information; and general help and assistance for immigration- and citizenship-related problems with services provided on a sliding scale of ability to pay by income.
