2008–09 UAE President's Cup
The 2008–09 UAE President's Cup was the 33rd season of the UAE President's Cup, the premier knockout tournament for association football clubs in the United Arab Emirates. Al-Ahli went into this edition as the holders. Sharjah FC hold the most wins with 8 titles. The cup winner were guaranteed a place in the 2010 AFC Champions League. Round 1 24 teams play a knockout tie. 12 clubs advance to the next round. Ties played over 30 & 31 October 2008 Round 2 16 teams play a knockout tie. 8 clubs advance to the next round. UAE President's Cup
The UAE President's Cup, or simply the President Cup, is a association football, football tournament that takes place in United Arab Emirates, between Football team, clubs in the UAE Pro League and the UAE First Division League. The winner qualifies for the preliminary stage of AFC Champions League Elite. History The UAE President's Cup started in the 1974–75 season, held by United Arab Emirates Football Association. Shabab Al Ahli Club, Shabab Al Ahli and Sharjah FC, Sharjah are the competition's most successful club with ten wins. Al Ain FC, Al Ain has contested the most finals with fourteen. The first match of the President's Cup, played on March 20, 1974, between Al Wasl FC, Al Wasl, Ajman Club, Ajman ended 2–3, Ali Saeed scored the first goal of the competition. Al Nasr SC (Dubai)
Al-Nasr CSC () is an Emirati professional football club based in Al Nasr, Dubai and competes in the UAE Pro League. Al-Nasr, literally translating to "victory" in Arabic, was founded in 1945 and is considered as the first and oldest club in the United Arab Emirates. History Pre–UAE League era (1945–1973) Al Nasr Sports Club was founded by a group of young men in a Al Ghubaiba, Dubai in 1945, making it the oldest club in UAE footballing history. The team played in an empty playground near a highschool for three years until in 1948 were they finally decided to establish modern rules of football. In 1951, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum chose the headquarters to be in a cafe close to a fish market, the cafe had a room for rent so the club would rent the room for meetings, gatherings and studying. Al-Jazira Club
Al Jazira Club () is an Emirati professional football club based in Abu Dhabi, that currently competes in the UAE Pro League. History Al-Jazira was established in 1974 as a merger between ''Khalidiyah'' and ''Al Bateen''. The club struggled to stay in the league, getting relegated on multiple occasions during the 1980s and 1990s, but experienced a recent success when Sheikh Mansour invested into them in the 2000s. Since his purchase, they won their first league title in 2011 and two more league titles in 2017 and 2021. Al Jazira have produced talented homegrown players such as Ali Mabkhout and Khalfan Mubarak and many others that would end up playing for the UAE national team. Al Shabab Al Arabi Club (), or simply Al Shabab, was an Emirati professional football and basketball club based in Dubai, that competed in the UAE Arabian Gulf League. The club was founded in 1958. In 2017, the club merged with Dubai CSC to join Al Ahli Dubai, which was rebranded as Shabab Al Ahli Club. Masafi
Masafi () is a village located on the edge of the Hajar Mountains in the United Arab Emirates. It sits at the inland entrance of the Wadi Ham, which runs down to Fujairah City. The border between the emirates of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah runs through the town, which houses a barracks used by the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces. Overview Before the construction of the Sharjah to Kalba road and the 'truck road' between Dibba and the 311 highway at Ras al-Khaimah, the road through Masafi was the only route from the interior to the East Coast of the UAE. The road from the inland town of Dhaid splits at Masafi, leading to Dibba to the north and Fujairah City to the south. A number of excavations point to Bronze Age habitation in Masafi, which has a recently restored (2012) stone and adobe fort, smaller but architecturally similar to the nearby Al Bithnah Fort, also restored as part of the same project. The Emirate of Fujairah ( ' ) is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, the only one of the seven with a coastline solely on the Gulf of Oman and none on the Persian Gulf. Ajman Football Club (Arabic: نادي عجمان), simply Ajman Club or Ajman FC, is an Emirati professional football club based in Ajman. In 2015, Ajman was relegated to the second division, but managed to climb back to the top flight in 2017. Dhafra
Al Dhafra FC () is an Emirati professional football club based in Madinat Zayed that competes in the UAE First Division League. Their futsal club participated in AFC Futsal Club Championship. History Al Dhafra FC was established in 2000, as part of a policy to promote sports across the country and the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi had no team, so Al Dhafra is the first and only club to be located in the western region. For most of its history the club was classified as a semi-professional club according to the UAE Pro League committee and did not have licenses to compete in the AFC competitions but the team had continued to appeal for a license since qualifying for the UAE President's Cup for the first time in 2019.
