2008 Tipperary County Hurling Team Season
The 2008 season was Liam Sheedy's first season in charge of the Tipperary senior hurling team. He was appointed for a one-year term at a meeting of the county board on 25 September 2007. Paul Ormond was the team captain for the year but Eoin Kelly was the playing captain when Ormond wasn't named in the team. On 27 January, Tipperary won the pre-season Waterford Crystal Cup for the second year in a row after a 3–13 to 1–13 defeat of Waterford. During the National League, Tipperary recorded three wins and two draws to finish second in Division 1B and secure a place in the knock-out stages. Subsequent defeats of Waterford and Kilkenny saw Tipperary qualify for the final in which they defeated Galway by 3–18 to 3–16 to take the title for the 19th time. Tipperary County Hurling Team
The Tipperary county hurling team represents Tipperary in hurling and is governed by Tipperary GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League. Tipperary's home ground is Semple Stadium, Thurles. The team's manager is Liam Cahill. 1922 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1922 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 36th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began in May 1922 and ended on 9 September 1923. The championship was won by Kilkenny who secured the title following a 4-2 to 2-6 defeat of Tipperary in the All-Ireland final. This was their 8th All-Ireland title, their first in nine championship seasons. Limerick GAA
The Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Luimneach) or Limerick GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Limerick. The county board is also responsible for the Limerick county teams. The county hurling team are the current All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (SHC) title holders, and have the fourth highest total of titles, behind Kilkenny, Cork and Tipperary. Paddy Stapleton
Patrick Stapleton (born 3 August 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Tipperary senior team from 2006 until 2016. Stapleton made his first appearance for the team during the 2007 Waterford Crystal Cup. During that time he won two All-Ireland winners' medals and six Munster winners' medals. At club level, Stapleton is a three-time North Tipperary medalist with Borris–Ileigh. He had the honour of captaining the side to victory over Nenagh Éire Óg in the 2017 decider. Playing career Club Stapleton plays his club hurling with the Borris–Ileigh club and has enjoyed some success. Pat Kerwick
Pat Kerwick (born 18 May 1982) is an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-back for the Tipperary senior team. Kerwick made his first appearance for the team during the 2006 Waterford Crystal Cup and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until he was dropped from the team prior to the 2012 National League. During that time he has won two Munster winners' medals. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Kerwick plays with Killenaule. Séamus Callanan
Séamus Callanan (born 15 September 1988) is an Irish hurler who plays for Tipperary Senior Championship club Drom & Inch and is the captain of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Often considered one of the best players of the current generation, Callanan has been a four-time nominee for Hurler of the Year, winning the award in 2019, and has won four All-Stars. He has won ten major trophies in his inter-county career, including three All-Ireland Championships, six Munster Championships and one National League. Moorefield GAA
Moorefield is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Newbridge County Kildare, Ireland, winner of two Leinster Club Senior Football Championships, ten Senior County Football Championships and three Senior County Hurling Championships. History Folklore records that, in 1882, two brothers, John O'Kelly of Moorefield Road and James O'Kelly of Ballymany were instrumental in forming the first football team in Newbridge. Calling themselves the JJ O'Kellys they played matches against Mountrice, Eyrefield, Monasterevin, Kildare town and Milltown. In 1884, when the GAA was formed, the club changed its name from JJ O'Kelly's to Moorefield, the name of a townland in southern Newbridge. Cian O'Neill
Dr Cian O'Neill is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who has since been a Gaelic games coach (physical trainer), selector and manager with various county teams. He has been attached to the Galway county football team, under Pádraic Joyce, since 2021. O'Neill trained the Tipperary county hurling team that won the 2010 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. After involvement with the Mayo and Kerry county football teams, he served as manager of the Kildare county football team for several years. Career O'Neill is originally from Newbridge, County Kildare. He played football for Kildare GAA club Moorefield but his career was cut short by serious back injury. O'Neill has coached both the Tipperary county hurling team and the Kerry county football team. Michael Ryan (hurler, Born 1970)
Michael Ryan (born 4 February 1970) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He was the manager of the Tipperary senior team from November 2015 until August 2018. Born in Upperchurch, County Tipperary, Ryan first arrived on the inter-county scene as a dual player at the age of seventeen, before later joining the under-21 teams in both codes. After joining the senior football team during the 1989 championship, he made his senior hurling debut during the 1991 championship. Ryan went on to play a key role for the team, winning one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Ryan won two Railway Cup medals. Kilruane MacDonagh's GAA
Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "North-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the villages of Kilruane, Ardcroney and Cloughjordan. The club was founded in 1937 and is named after Thomas MacDonagh, a signatory of the 1916 Proclamation who was born and lived in Cloughjordan. The clubhouse and playing field are located in Cloughjordan. The finest day in the club's history was in 1986 when it won the Senior Hurling Club All-Ireland title, defeating Buffers Alley of Wexford GAA in the final by 1-15 to 2-10. The club incorporates many of clubs that existed in the parishes at the time. A forerunner to the MacDonaghs club was the famous De Wets formed in 1900.
