The Queen's Birthday Honours 2008 were appointments in the Australian honours system to recognise and reward good works by citizens of Australia and other nations that contribute to Australia. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the order of wearing, including the Order of St John). Honours and awards have been present in Australia since pre-federation, primarily from the Imperial honours and awards system. This Imperial system remained in place until its full phase out in 1994 (although the Monarch of Australia may still confer some of these honours to Australians in their personal capacity). Clean Up Australia
Clean Up Australia Limited is a not-for-profit Australian environmental conservation organisation. It is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. Clean Up Australia Limited has sponsored a yearly Clean Up Australia Day since 1990. On the first Sunday of March each year, groups of citizens clean up rubbish at different sites across the country. Honorary Air Commodore Terence John Higgins (born 1943) is an Australian-born judge of the Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea, National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea, and a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Geoffrey Graham Garrett (born 1948) is the former CEO of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and Queensland Chief Scientist 2011-2016.
