2008 LPGA Tour
The 2008 LPGA Tour was a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world that took place from February through December 2008. The tournaments were sanctioned by the United States–based Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). In 2008, prize money on the LPGA Tour was $60.3 million, which was the highest in the history of the tour until 2016. Lorena Ochoa topped the money list, earning $2,763,193. Ochoa also led the league in most wins with seven, including four consecutive tournaments in March and April and one major tournament. The four major championships were won by: Lorena Ochoa (Kraft Nabisco Championship), Yani Tseng (LPGA Championship), Inbee Park (U.S. Women's Open), and Jiyai Shin (Women's British Open). Lorena Ochoa
Lorena Ochoa Reyes (; born 15 November 1981) is a Mexican former professional golfer who played on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour from 2003 LPGA Tour, 2003 to 2010 LPGA Tour, 2010. She was the Women's World Golf Rankings#World number ones, top-ranked female golfer in the world for 158 consecutive and total weeks (both are LPGA Tour records), from 23 April 2007 to her retirement on 2 May 2010, at the age of 28 years old. As the first Mexican golfer of either gender to be ranked number one in the world, because of her record, she is considered the best female golfer of all time. Ochoa was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. The Sybase Classic was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour for twenty years, from 1990 LPGA Tour, 1990 to 2009 LPGA Tour, 2009. The event was originally known as the "Big Apple Classic", but the name was dropped in 2007 LPGA Tour, 2007 when the tournament relocated from the New York City area to New Jersey. From 1992 through 2006, ShopRite sponsored the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Atlantic City. Michelob ULTRA Open At Kingsmill
The Pure Silk Championship was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour, played in Williamsburg, Virginia. The 72-hole tournament was held on the par-71 River Course at Kingsmill Resort, set at in 2013. Previously known as the "Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill," the tournament was founded in 2003 and played for seven seasons. Absent in 2010 and 2011, it returned for the 2012 season in early September, and switched to early May in 2013. The LPGA event succeeded the Michelob Championship at Kingsmill, an annual PGA Tour event held for 22 years, from 1981 through 2002. The SemGroup Championship was a golf tournament for professional female golfers that was part of the LPGA Tour. It was played annually from 2001 to 2008 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The tournament was originally known as the Williams Championship, with the Williams Companies as the title sponsor. John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts was the title sponsor from 2003 to 2006. The Stanford International Pro-Am was a golf tournament for professional female golfers that was part of the LPGA Tour for one year only, in 2008. It was played at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club in Aventura, Florida. The tournament was in the format of a pro-am, with 112 LPGA professionals and 112 amateurs. It was the first pro-am on the LPGA Tour since the 2001 Office Depot Pro-Am at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa. After 36 holes the field was cut to the top 70 professionals and top 20 teams, and after 54 holes only the professionals competed for the $2,000,000 purse. The Ginn Open was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour. It was played from 2006 to 2008 at Ginn Reunion Resort in Reunion, Florida. For all three years, the tournament was broadcast on CBS Sports.The title sponsor was Ginn Resorts, a resort development and management firm with headquarters in Celebration, Florida. The Tres Marias Championship was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour, played from 2005 to 2010, at Tres Marias Residential Golf Club in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. From 2005 through 2009 the title sponsor of the tournament was Mexican beer Corona. Lorena Ochoa of Mexico won the event three times: 2006, 2008, and 2009. The Chevron Championship is a professional women's golf tournament. An event on the LPGA Tour, it is one of the tour's five major championships, and has traditionally been the first of the season since its elevation to major status in 1983. Since 2023, it has been played on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. Louise Friberg (golfer)
Louise Friberg (born 24 June 1980) is a Swedish professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the United States–based LPGA Tour. Early years Born in a golfing family, Friberg started playing golf at young age at Rya Golf Club, outside Helsingborg, Sweden. Her father Mikael and her grandfather Björn were both elite golfers and each of them held a scratch handicap at the same time in the 1970s. Her grandfather Björn started the Swedish agency for Ping golf equipment, after he coincidentally met Karsten Solheim, when Björn tried to qualify for The Open Championship in England in 1971.
