2007–08 Uruguayan Primera División Season
The 2007−08 season of the Primera División Uruguaya is the 76th professional season of Uruguay's top-flight football league. Teams Torneo Apertura Top scorers Torneo Clausura Clausura tiebreaker Top scorers Aggregate table Championship playoff The Apertura and Clausura winners will play a semifinal match. The winner will advance to the final and play against the best team in the aggregate table. Semifinal Final Since Defensor Sporting was the best team in the aggregate as well as the semifinal winner, they were automatically declared the champion. Relegation table The relegation table is an aggregate of the past two Primera División seasons, with the exception of the Liguilla Pre-Libertadores and any playoffs. Teams that were promoted for this season had their statistics doubled. The three lowest teams will be relegated for the next season. Central Español Fútbol Club, usually known simply as Central Español is a Uruguayan football club based in Montevideo. History The F.U.F era Together with Peñarol, Central founded FUF (Uruguayan football federation) in 1923 after being expelled from AUF. The FUF even made a parallel Uruguay national team (dissident to AUF) that played several international games based on Peñarol and Central squads. After 3 years of existence the new federation was dissolved and both teams returned to AUF. Merging Central append "Español" to its name after an agreement signed with a Spanish group in 1971. Club Nacional de Football (, ''National Football Club'' or simply as Nacional) is a Uruguayan professional sports club based in Montevideo. The club was founded on 14 May 1899 as a result of the merger between ''Uruguay Athletic Club'' and ''Montevideo Fútbol Club''. Although its main focus is football, the club hosts many other activities, including basketball, futsal, tennis, cycling, volleyball, and chess. Liverpool Fútbol Club is a Uruguayan football club based in Montevideo. The team was first promoted to the Primera División in 1919 and plays its home games at Estadio Belvedere. Las Piedras is a city in the Canelones Department of Uruguay. As of the census of 2011, it is the seventh most populated city of the country. History The club was born from a group of youths from Las Piedras, Uruguay who played soccer at San Isidro Catholic school. On December 24, 1935 the boys arrived at school expecting to play (as always having arranged the match the day before), but when they got there the priests had forbidden it as they were preparing a big nativity crèche set on the field. The Estadio Luis Franzini (or Luis Franzini Stadium) is an outdoor football stadium located in Montevideo, Uruguay. The stadium's maximum capacity is 16,000 people, and it is the home ground of Defensor Sporting. The stadium was closed during the 1997 season for renovations.
