Season summary After losing key player David Nugent, Preston North End made a bad start to the 2007–08 season with just three victories from the opening 16 matches, which resulted in manager Paul Simpson being sacked on 13 November. Everton assistant manager Alan Irvine took over as manager seven days later and guided Preston to a 15th-place finish. Christopher Edward Sedgwick (born 28 April 1980) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was last employed as a coach at Bury, the club with whom he spent the final three years of his playing career. Darren Anthony Carter (born 18 December 1983) is an English football coach and former professional player. Primarily a central midfielder, Carter made more than 300 appearances in the Premier League and Football League over a 14-year career, and then spent a further six seasons playing in the National League. He was most recently head coach of FA Women's Championship club Birmingham City Women. Karl Leon Hawley (born 6 December 1981) is an English retired professional footballer. He has represented the England C team. Career Early Career Born in Walsall, West Midlands, Hawley started his career at his hometown club, Walsall, but made only one league appearance. Callum Iain Davidson (born 25 June 1976) is a Scottish professional football player and coach who recently managed Scottish Championship club Queen's Park. Davidson played as a left-back for St Johnstone, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Preston North End between 1994 and 2014. At international level, Davidson represented Scotland on 19 occasions between 1998 and 2009.
