Football League (Greece)
The Football League ( el, Φούτμπολ Λιγκ) was the second highest professional football league in Greece since its inception in 1962 as ''Beta Ethniki'' and until 2019. It then served as a third tier after the creation of the Super League 2 as the new second tier and it was eventually abolished in 2021 when the 2021–22 Super League 2 went from a 12 team to a 36 team league, absorbing most of the clubs from the Football League. Ilisiakos Football Club ( el, Ηλυσιακός A.O.) is an Athens-based Association football, football club that was founded in 1927 by Michalis Xydis, Lambropoulos, Evgenopoulos, Nikolaos Plessas, ''et al.''. They played in Delta Ethiniki until 2003. Ilisiakos spent the majority of its later history in the Greek second division; however, the footballing arm of the club merged with Egaleo F.C. in August 2009 and was renamed as Egaleo. Ilias Solakis ( el, Ηλίας Σολάκης; born 15 December 1974) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Born in Florina, Solakis began his professional career with Veria and played for the club in the Alpha Ethniki during the 1996–97 and 1997–98 seasons. He played in the Alpha Ethniki again with Panachaiki during the 1999–2000 and 2000–01 seasons. On summer of 2001 he moved to APOEL where he helped the club to win the Cypriot First Division 2001-02 by scoring 15 goals in 26 appearances. Georgios Saitiotis ( el, Γεώργιος Σαϊτιώτης; born 25 July 1981) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a striker. Benjamin Onwuachi (born 9 April 1984 in Lagos) is a Nigerian footballer who plays as a striker. Onwuachi started his career in the youth ranks of Reggiana. 2008–09 Gamma Ethniki
The 2008–09 Gamma Ethniki was the 26th season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. It started on September 14, 2008 and finished on May 3, 2009. 36 teams contest the league, divided into two groups of 18 clubs each, using certain geographical criteria. 23 of the participant clubs have contested in the 2007-08 season, 3 of them have been relegated from Beta Ethniki, while 10 of them have been promoted from Delta Ethniki. The 2008–09 Super League Greece was the 73rd season of the highest football league of Greece and the third under the name ''Super League''. The season began on 31 August 2008 and ended on 26 April 2009. The league consisted of 16 teams. Participants were the 13 best teams from the 2007–08 season and three teams who have been promoted from Beta Ethniki. S.F.K. Pierikos ( el, Σ.Φ.Κ. Πιερικός) is a Greek football club based in Katerini, Greece, part of the major multi-sport club of the same name. Their name was inspired from the State's name of Pieria. The club recently competed in the Super League 2 2021–22, at the Northern Group and got relegated to Gamma Ethniki. History of the club The foundation The club was founded on 11 April 1961 from the merger between Megas Alexandros (meaning Alexander the Great) Katerinis and Olympos Katerinis. Megas Alexandros had played in the 1st Division of Greek football in its first season ( 1959–60) but finished in the 15th position and thus relegated in the 2nd Division.
