General elections were held in the Pitcairn Islands on 9 December 2007. Mike Warren was elected mayor, replacing the incumbent Jay Warren, who came in second place in a three-way contest. The Island Council was also renewed. The Pitcairn Islands ( ; Pitkern: '), officially Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands, are a group of four volcanic islands in the southern Pacific Ocean that form the sole British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory in the Pacific Ocean. The four islands—Pitcairn Island, Pitcairn, Henderson Island (Pitcairn Islands), Henderson, Ducie Island, Ducie and Oeno Island, Oeno—are scattered across several hundred kilometres of ocean and have a combined land area of about 47 square kilometres (18 square miles). Radio New Zealand International
RNZ Pacific or Radio New Zealand Pacific, sometimes abbreviated to RNZP, is a division of Radio New Zealand and the official international broadcasting station of New Zealand. It broadcasts a variety of news, current affairs and sports programmes in English, and news in seven Pacific languages. Mike Warren (mayor Of Pitcairn)
Michael Calvert Warren (born 1964) is a Pitcairnese politician, who was Mayor of the Pitcairn Islands from 2008 to 2013. Child pornography In December 2010, Warren was charged with possessing indecent photos of children and possessing pornographic images, videos and documents involving children. Warren fought to have his case tried in Pitcairn; Crown prosecutors sought to try him in New Zealand. His application was rejected in a hearing held in May 2012, whilst still in office. In 2016, Warren was found guilty of downloading more than 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse. During the time he downloaded the images he was working in child protection. Jay Warren
Jay Calvin Warren (born 29 July 1956) is a political figure from the Pacific territory of the Pitcairn Islands. Political roles Jay Warren was elected mayor of the last remaining British dependency in Oceania in the general election held on 15 December 2004, defeating Brenda Christian, who had held the mayoralty in an interim capacity following the dismissal from the post of her brother, Steve Christian, by the British authorities on 30 October 2004, following his rape convictions. Warren was expected to take up his duties sometime around Christmas, when he was to return from Tahiti, where his daughter Darylynn was hospitalized and recovering from a longboat accident in which her arm was nearly severed. Island Council (Pitcairn)
The Island Council is the List of national legislatures, legislature of the Pitcairn Islands. Structure The Council has ten members, seven (five Councillors, the List of rulers of the Pitcairn Islands, Mayor, and the Deputy Mayor) of whom are elected by popular vote and are the only members that are allowed to vote during any Council meeting. The other three are ''ex-officio'' members: the Administrator of the Pitcairn Islands, Administrator (who serves as both the head of government and the representative of the Governor of the Pitcairn Islands), the Governor of the Pitcairn Islands, Governor, and the Deputy Governor. The Councillors and the Deputy Mayor all serve two year terms.
