2007 Amber Valley Council Election
Elections to Amber Valley Borough Council were held on 3 May 2007. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative Party held overall control of the council. Amber Valley
Amber Valley is a local government district and borough in the east of Derbyshire, England, taking its name from the River Amber. It covers a semi-rural zone with four main towns whose economy was based on coal mining and remains to some extent influenced by engineering, distribution and manufacturing, holding for instance the headquarters and production site of Thorntons confectionery. The seat in the House of Commons of Amber Valley is of smaller scope. The population at the 2011 Census was 122,309. The village of Crich and other parts of the district were the setting for ITV drama series '' Peak Practice''. Amber Valley Borough Council Elections
Amber Valley Borough Council elections are generally held three years out of every four, with a third of the council elected each time. Amber Valley Borough Council is the local authority for the non-metropolitan district of Amber Valley in Derbyshire, England. Since the last boundary changes in 2000, 45 councillors have been elected to represent 23 wards. New ward boundaries are due to come into force from the 2023 elections. 2007 English Local Elections
The 2007 UK local government elections were held on 3 May 2007. These elections took place in most of England and all of Scotland. There were no local government elections in Wales though the Welsh Assembly had a general election on the same day. There were no local government elections in Northern Ireland. Just over half of English councils and almost all the Scottish councils began the counts on Friday, rather than Thursday night, because of more complex arrangements regarding postal votes. These elections were a landmark in the United Kingdom as it was the first time that 18- to 20-year-olds could stand as candidates for council seats. The change was due to an alteration of the Electoral Administration Act. At least fourteen 18- to 20-year-olds are known to have stood as candidates for council seats and as a result William Lloyd became the youngest person to be elected to official office in Britain.
