2006–07 Denver Nuggets Season
The 2006–07 Denver Nuggets season was the 40th season of the franchise, 31st in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The season is best remembered when Carmelo Anthony made headlines on December 16 when he was involved in a brawl against the Knicks, and as a result was suspended for 15 games. The next day, the Nuggets acquired Allen Iverson from Philadelphia. Anthony and the newly acquired Iverson played their first game together on January 22, 2007, in a game against Memphis. The Nuggets finished the year at 45–37, making the postseason for the fourth straight year. However, they did not make it out of the first round, losing to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs in five games. Anthony and Iverson were voted to play in the 2007 NBA All-Star Game although Iverson did not play due to an injury. This was Anthony's first All-Star game appearance. George Karl
George Matthew Karl (born May 12, 1951) is an American former professional basketball coach and player. After spending five years as a player for the San Antonio Spurs, he became an assistant with the team before being appointed as a head coach in 1980 with the Montana Golden Nuggets of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). Three years later, Karl became one of the youngest National Basketball Association (NBA) head coaches in history when he was named coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers at age 33. By the time his coaching career came to an end in 2016, Karl coached nine different teams in three different leagues (CBA, NBA, Liga ACB), which included being named Coach of the Year three combined times (twice in the CBA and once in the NBA) with one championship roster in the FIBA Saporta Cup. Leon Powe
Leon Powe Jr. (; born January 22, 1984) is an American former professional basketball power forward. Drafted in 2006 by the Denver Nuggets, Powe grew up in Oakland, California, and played college basketball for the California Golden Bears. He played his first three years in the NBA with the Boston Celtics and won a championship with the team in 2008. From 2009 to 2011, Powe played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also had a stint with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2011. After a stint in Puerto Rico, Powe announced his retirement in 2014 citing multiple injuries and his desire to become a businessman. 2006–07 Dallas Mavericks Season
The 2006–07 Dallas Mavericks season was the team's 27th in the NBA. The Mavericks entered the season as the runners-up of the 2006 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in six games. They began the season hoping to improve upon their 60–22 output from the previous season. They improved by seven wins, finishing 67–15, claiming the top seed in the Western Conference, and qualifying for the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. In the first round, they met the eight-seeded Golden State Warriors, and lost in six games in a shocking upset. The Mavericks became the third first-seeded team in NBA history to be eliminated by an eighth-seeded team in the playoffs, following the Seattle SuperSonics in 1994, and the Miami Heat in 1999. 2006–07 Chicago Bulls Season
The 2006–07 Chicago Bulls season was the 41st season for the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team finished with a record of 49–33 in the regular season and reached the second round of the NBA playoffs, making it, at the time, their most successful season since the retirement of Michael Jordan, but nevertheless leaving some doubt amongst fans as to whether the team could compete for an NBA championship in the near future. The Bulls had the best team defensive rating in the NBA. 2006–07 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 2006–07 Atlanta Hawks season was the 58th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the 39th in Atlanta. The Hawks had the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft, and selected Shelden Williams out of Duke University. During the offseason, the team signed free agent Speedy Claxton and re-signed former Hawks center Lorenzen Wright. The Hawks got off to a strong start winning four of their first five games. However, the lack of talent on the court continued to weigh down the Hawks as they entered the New Year with a 9–20 record, including an 8-game losing streak. John Welch (basketball)
John Welch (born February 17, 1963) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the associate head coach at Fresno State. He previously served as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played professionally in New Zealand where in 1988, he earned Most Outstanding Guard and All-Star Five honors playing for Waitemata. Throughout his coaching career, he has worked with or worked under various notable basketball people, including Jerry Tarkanian, Jerry West, Hubie Brown, George Karl and Tim Grgurich. Jamahl Mosley
Jamahl Mosley (born October 6, 1978) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Colorado Buffaloes men's basketball, Colorado Buffaloes and professionally for four seasons overseas. Mosley began his coaching career in 2005 as a player development coach for the Denver Nuggets. Douglas Edwin Moe (born September 21, 1938) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. As a head coach with the Denver Nuggets in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 1988. Tim Grgurich
Tim Grgurich (born June 10, 1942) is an American basketball coach. Grgurich served as the head coach at his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh, for 5 seasons in the mid to late 1970s. He also served as the head coach at UNLV for the first seven games of the 1994–95 season before abruptly resigning. He arrived at UNLV in the mid-1980s, importing the amoeba defense developed when he was a Pitt assistant under Bob Timmons and Charles Ridl to Jerry Tarkanian's teams.
