2006 Speedway Grand Prix Of Italy
The 2006 Speedway Grand Prix of Italy was the sixth round of the 2006 Speedway Grand Prix season (the world championship). It took place on 29 July 2006 at the Santa Marina Stadium in Lonigo, (Italy). It was the third time that the Speedway Grand Prix of Italy had been held. The Grand Prix was by the Australian rider Jason Crump (his 16th career Grand Prix win). Santa Marina Stadium
The Santa Marina Stadium is a 5,000-capacity motorcycle stadium in the Lonigo, Italy. The stadium is situated in the southern part of Lonigo, which itself is 25km south of Vicenza. The stadium is affiliated to the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana and has a circumference of 334 metres. History The Moto Club Lonigo had previously raced speedway at the Hippodrome Municipal Park from 1947 to 1972 before moving to a new site in nearby Monticello di Fara, Sarego. The track known as La Favorita, off the Via Julia Divisione, was only a temporary solution for the club because they wanted a facility that would meet international regulations. Work began on the Santa Marina Stadium and it opened on the on 12 June 1977, hosting the semi-finals of the 1977 Speedway World Pairs Championship. Greg Hancock
Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970, in Whittier, California) is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. In addition to his four Speedway World Championships he won the Speedway World Team Cup with the USA speedway team on three occasions and earned 39 caps for the United States national speedway team. Hancock appeared in all but one of the Grand Prix series, since its creation in 1995 until 2019. Career Hancock first came to the United Kingdom at the end of the 1988 speedway season to ride exhibition races with fellow 18-year-old Californian Billy Hamill. Simone Terenzani (born 1978) is an Italian motorcycle speedway rider who rode in 2005 Speedway Grand Prix and earned 8 international caps. Career Terenzani won the Italian Junior Championship in 1999. He made his debut in the British leagues after joining Hull Vikings for the 2005 Premier League speedway season. Mattia Carpanese born (5 November 1985 in Padova, Italy) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Italy. He is six times National champion of Italy. Career Carpanese rode in the United Kingdom for the Workington Comets during the 2007 Premier League, and for the Birmingham Brummies in 2008. Carpanese finished runner-up in the Italian Championship in 2005. He was selected as a wild card for the 2006 and 2007 Italian Speedway Grand Prix. He quit the Comets after a string of injuries on 30 August 2007. On 20 April 2008 it was announced that Carpanese had been signed by Birmingham Brummies as a short term replacement for injured rider James Birkinshaw but was released after twenty eight days. Piotr Protasiewicz (born 25 January 1975 in Zielona Góra, Poland) is a Polish international speedway rider. He is a four times World team champion and earned 24 international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career Protasiewicz began his career riding for Falubaz Zielona Góra in 1991 where he would spend four seasons. He began to record some notable performances including reaching the finals of three Speedway Under-21 World Championship in 1993, 1995 and 1996. In the 1996 final he scored a perfect 15 point maximum to be crowned the World U21 champion. Lee Stewart Richardson (25 April 1979 – 13 May 2012) was a British international motorcycle speedway rider. Career Richardson made his British debut for the Reading Racers in 1995. Richardson represented Great Britain speedway team, Great Britain at senior and under-21 level and featured in several Speedway World Cup, World Cup tournaments. Richardson was World Under 21 champion in 1999. Antonio Lindbäck (born 5 May 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden, who competed in the Speedway World Championship and was a member of the Swedish team who won the Speedway World Cup in 2004 and 2015. Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a seven times national champion of Denmark and was part of the Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Tomasz Gollob
Tomasz Robert Gollob (; born 11 April 1971 in Bydgoszcz, Poland) is a former Polish motorcycle speedway rider. He appeared in every Speedway Grand Prix series between its inaugural season in 1995 and 2013. He earned 52 caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career summary Tomasz Gollob spent almost all of his career with hometown club Bydgoszcz until he moved to Unia Tarnów in 2004. Andreas Karl Rune Jonsson (born 3 September 1980 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish former international motorcycle speedway rider. He was a member of the Sweden speedway team that won the World Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2015. He earned 26 caps for the Sweden national speedway team.
