2006 Southern Sting Season
The 2006 Southern Sting season saw the Southern Sting netball team compete in the 2006 National Bank Cup league season. With a team coached by Robyn Broughton and featuring Tania Dalton, Donna Loffhagen, Wendy Telfer, Lesley Rumball and Adine Wilson, Sting finished the regular season as minor premiers. However, they subsequently lost the major semi-final to Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 61–51. In the preliminary final they defeated Northern Force 64–59. Robyn Broughton
Robyn Denise Broughton (née Quirke; 10 July 1943 – 6 September 2023) was a New Zealand netball coach. Broughton coached the Southern Sting from 1998 to 2007 during the National Bank Cup, winning seven titles in ten years. She was also an assistant coach for the New Zealand national netball team from 2000 to 2002, and a national selector. From 2012 to 2015, Broughton coached the Central Pulse in the ANZ Championship, after four years with the Southern Steel and later coached the Hertfordshire Mavericks in the Netball Superleague. Early life and family Broughton was born Robyn Denise Quirke, the daughter of Jim and Margaret Quirke, in Lower Hutt on 10 July 1943. Growing up, she played netball, softball and tennis. Jenny Ferguson
Jenny Ferguson is a retired New Zealand netball player. Ferguson played domestic netball with the Otago Rebels from 2000 to 2002 and the Southern Sting from 2003 to 2007, captaining the side in 2007. She is also a former New Zealand A captain. Ferguson announced her retirement from all aspects of netball after the Sting won the 2007 National Bank Cup against the Northern Force. This was the last season of the National Bank Cup, which was replaced by a new trans-Tasman netball league called the ANZ Championship. Ferguson linked up with the new Southern ANZ Championship franchise, the Southern Steel, as a physiotherapist. TSB Arena
The TSB Arena (formerly known as the Queens Wharf Events Centre and then TSB Bank Arena) is an indoor arena in Wellington that hosts basketball games, roller derby, music concerts, conventions and exhibitions. History In the 1990s Lambton Harbour Management, a company controlled by Wellington City Council, was involved in developing Queens Wharf as an entertainment area. Two large buildings, Queens Wharf Retail Centre and Queens Wharf Events Centre, were officially opened by Sir Peter Blake on 18 November 1995. The buildings were designed by the architect to look like wharf sheds, but were criticised for being out of scale with other waterfront buildings. Lobby group Waterfront Watch described the events centre as "a monstrous eyesore resembling a Soviet ablution block". Capital Shakers are a former New Zealand netball team that were based in Wellington. Between 1998 and 2007, Shakers played in the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup league. Auckland Diamonds were a former New Zealand netball team based in Waitakere City, Auckland Region. As a result, they were also known as Auckland Waitakere Diamonds. Catherine Latu
Cathrine Tuivaiti (née Latu; born 25 October 1986) is a netball international who has played for Samoa, New Zealand and Tonga. She represented Samoa at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2007 World Netball Championships, New Zealand at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Tonga at the 2023 Netball World Cup. Megan Dehn
Megan Anderson, also known as Megan McWilliams and previously known as Megan Dehn, is a former Australia netball international and current netball coach. Between 2000 and 2006 she made 20 senior appearances for Australia. She was a member of the Australia team that won the silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. During the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era, Anderson was a member of Sydney Swifts teams that won premierships in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007. Eventfinda Stadium (known from 1992–2018 as the North Shore Events Centre) is an indoor arena located in Wairau Valley, on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. Angela Mitchell (née Evans; born 14 September 1977 in Christchurch, New Zealand) is a New Zealand netball player. Mitchell played domestic netball in the National Bank Cup (NBC) for the Canterbury Flames (1998–2002) and the Otago Rebels (2003–2005, 2007). Women's National Basketball Association
The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is a women's professional basketball league in the United States. The league comprises 13 teams (scheduled to expand to 15 in 2026).
