2006 MLS SuperDraft
The 2006 MLS SuperDraft, held in Philadelphia on January 20, 2006, was the seventh incarnation of the annual Major League Soccer MLS SuperDraft, SuperDraft. The first selection originally belonged to Chivas USA, but they traded it to the MetroStars for the fifth overall selection and Jason Hernandez. The MetroStars then drafted Marvell Wynne (soccer), Marvell Wynne. The draft was followed by the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft. The draft has produced multiple United States men's national soccer team players, including Sacha Kljestan, Jozy Altidore (2nd round), and Jonathan Bornstein (4th round). Jonathan Bornstein
Jonathan Rey Bornstein (born November 7, 1984) is an American former professional soccer player who plays as a left-back. He has captained and made 38 appearances for the United States national team. In addition to also playing for Chivas USA in Major League Soccer (with whom he was the 2006 MLS Rookie of the Year, an MLS Best XI, and a two-time MLS All-Star), he has played in Liga MX and in the Israeli Premier League. He won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2005 Maccabiah Games, in Israel. Youth and college Bornstein attended Los Alamitos High School, where he played soccer for all four years. He was MVP of the Sunset League, first-team all-county, and All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), and led the soccer team to a CIF Championship. Jason Garey
Jason Garey (born July 19, 1984) is an American soccer player. Career Youth and College Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Garey, who grew up in Gonzales, Louisiana, attended St. Amant High School and played for the Baton Rouge Soccer Club. He continues to hold Louisiana high school records for most goals in a season (73) and in a career (170). Garey played college soccer at the University of Maryland. In his senior season, he scored 22 goals in 25 games, was named a first-team All-American, won the Hermann Trophy as the best college player, and led the Terrapins to the College Cup. Professional Garey was drafted by Columbus Crew in the first round (third overall) at the 2006 MLS SuperDraft and was with the club when they won the 2008 MLS Cup. Columbus Crew
The Columbus Crew are an American professional soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference (MLS), Eastern Conference. The team began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs of the league. Santa Clara Broncos Men's Soccer
The Santa Clara Broncos men's soccer program represents Santa Clara University in all NCAA Division I men's college soccer competitions. Founded in 1967, the Broncos compete in the West Coast Conference. The Broncos are coached by Cameron Rast, who has coached the program since 2002. The men's soccer program has won one NCAA title, which they co-shared with Virginia, in 1989. Mehdi Ballouchy
Mehdi Ballouchy (; born April 6, 1983) is a retired Moroccan professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is currently one of the coaching staff for New York City FC. Career Early life At the age of 13, he joined SCC Mohammédia and played there to the age of 16. He then moved to the United States in 2000, initially living with his brother in Denver before attending Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California with a host family. The UCLA Bruins men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of the University of California at Los Angeles. Landon Donovan MVP Award
The Landon Donovan MVP Award is an annual award for Major League Soccer players. It is voted on by media, MLS players, and club management and is given to the player deemed the most valuable player in the league each season. From 1996 to 2007, the award was known as the Honda MLS Most Valuable Player, for commercial purposes. From 2007 to 2014, the award was titled the Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player. Players for D.C. United have won the award a record four times, while Kansas City and Los Angeles Galaxy players have won a second best three times. MLS All-Star Game
The Major League Soccer All-Star Game is an annual soccer game held by Major League Soccer featuring selected players from the league against an international club or selected players from another league. MLS initially adopted a traditional all-star game format used by other North American sports leagues where the Eastern Conference squared off against the Western Conference. This eventually evolved into the current system where the league annually invites a club from abroad to play against a league all-star team in a friendly match. The MLS All-Stars hold a 9–8 record in the competition, which generally marks the season's midpoint. Generation Adidas
Generation Adidas is a joint venture between Major League Soccer and U.S. Soccer aimed at raising the level of young professional soccer talent in the United States. The program, sponsored by Adidas, offers professional-ready players in the U.S. developmental system not yet eligible for the MLS SuperDraft early entry, allowing MLS to compete with foreign professional clubs without comparable restrictions on player signing.
