2006 A-League Pre-Season Challenge Cup
The 2006 A-League Pre-Season Challenge Cup was a series in the Australian A-League football competition held in July and August in the lead up to the start of the main season. The opening round was 15 July 2006. The competition featured a group stage, with three regular rounds and a bonus round, followed by a two-week finals playoff. The bonus group round matched up teams against opponents from the other group, and also offered the incentive of "bonus points" based on goals scored (1 point for 2 goals, 2 points for 3 goals, 3 points for 4 or more goals). The Pre-Season Cup was used to enhance the A-League's profiles by playing pre-season games in regional centres including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Launceston, Canberra, Wollongong, Port Macquarie, Orange and Tamworth. Central Coast Mariners FC
Central Coast Mariners Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Gosford, on the Central Coast of New South Wales. It competes in the A-League Men, under licence from the Australian Professional Leagues (APL). The Mariners were founded in 2004 and are one of the eight original A-League teams. It is the first professional sports club from the Gosford region to compete in a national competition. Despite being considered one of the smallest-market clubs in the league, the Central Coast Mariners have claimed one A-League Championship from four Grand Final appearances and topped the table to win the A-League Premiership twice. Wade Park
Wade Park is a sports ground originally constructed for cricket located in the town of Orange, New South Wales, Australia. Cricket The park has hosted Sheffield shield matches, an International T20 match between Hong Kong and Sydney Thunder plus a number of competitive A-League matches featuring the Central Coast Mariners FC – in 2006's Pre-Season against Adelaide United (resulting in a 0–0 draw), and then again in 2007 when the Mariners and Queensland Roar played out a 1–1 draw. York Park
York Park is a sports ground in the Inveresk and York Park Precinct, Launceston, Australia. Holding 19,000 people – the largest capacity stadium in Tasmania, York Park is known commercially as University of Tasmania Stadium and was formerly known as Aurora Stadium under a previous naming rights agreement signed with Aurora Energy in 2004. Primarily used for Australian rules football, its record attendance of 20,971 was set in June 2006, when Hawthorn Football Club played Richmond Football Club in an Australian Football League (AFL) match. Thomas Carl Veart (born 21 May 1970 in Whyalla, South Australia, Australia) is an Australian former footballer who is the head coach for Adelaide United. Club career He previously played in England for Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Millwall. During his time at Crystal Palace he earned the affectionate title of "goal machine". Central Coast Stadium
Central Coast Stadium (known originally as Grahame Park), known commercially as Industree Group Stadium is a sports venue in Gosford, on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The stadium is home to the Central Coast Mariners association football club which competes in the A-League. The stadium also hosts rugby league and rugby union fixtures on an ad hoc basis as well as other major social events. The stadium was originally designed to be the home stadium for the North Sydney Bears rugby league football club. Leonida Christos Bertos (born 20 December 1981) is a New Zealand professional footballer who last played as a midfielder for Hamilton Olympic in the National Premier Leagues. Adam Kwasnik
Adam Kwasnik (born 31 May 1983) is an Australian former professional association football player who played as a striker. Club career Kwasnik was part of the inaugural Central Coast Mariners squad in 2005–06, and was a substitute in the final that the Mariners lost 1–0. He was the leading Mariners goalscorer with seven goals in a disappointing campaign in 2006–07 for the Mariners. Kwasnik was scorer of the 200th goal in the A-League on 20 January 2006.
