First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Dirk Nannes
Dirk Peter Nannes (born 16 May 1976) is an Australian-Dutch cricket commentator and former cricketer who has played internationally for both Australia and the Netherlands, one of the few players to represent multiple international teams. From Melbourne, Nannes was a freestyle skier before beginning his cricket career, and competed in mogul events at two FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cups. Beginning in Victorian Premier Cricket, he made his first-class debut for Victoria during the 2005–06 season, aged 29. A left-arm fast bowler, Nannes had moderate success in the domestic first-class and one-day tournaments, leading to a stint with English county side Middlesex during the 2008 season. His greatest success, however, came in Twenty20 matches. The 2005–06 Australian cricket season took place from October 2005 to March 2006. Ben Hilfenhaus
Benjamin William Hilfenhaus (born 15 March 1983) is an Australian former professional cricketer who played for Tasmania in Australian domestic cricket and for the Australia national cricket team. He is right-arm fast-medium bowler known for his ability to swing the ball. Hilfenhaus plays club cricket for Tasmania University Cricket Club. He made his first-class cricket debut in the 2005/06 season and his haul of 39 wickets was a record for someone playing their first season for Tasmania. Before he was given a full-time contract for 2006/07, he worked as a bricklayer as well as playing cricket. He has best bowling figures of 7/58 in first-class cricket, achieved in his first season for Tasmania. Jason Gillespie
Jason Neil Gillespie (born 19 April 1975) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer who played all three formats of the game. A right-arm fast bowler, he was also a competent lower-order batsman whose unbeaten 201 in his last Test match is the highest score by a night-watchman in international cricket. Gillespie made his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka at Colombo in the Singer World Series in August 1996, and his Test debut against the West Indies at Sydney in November 1996. He also played for South Australia, Yorkshire and Glamorgan at first-class level, and was an AIS Australian Cricket Academy scholarship holder in 1995. Michael Kasprowicz
Michael Scott Kasprowicz (born 10 February 1972) is a former Australian international cricketer, who played all formats of the game. He is a right arm fast bowler. He represented Queensland and played in the English county scene at first class level. Personal life A past student of Brisbane State High School, Kasprowicz is the older brother of former professional rugby union player Simon Kasprowicz. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Queensland. Kasprowicz is also a father to three children. Domestic career Kasprowicz made his debut for Queensland as a seventeen-year-old in the 1989–1990 domestic season. He was an AIS Australian Cricket Academy scholarship holder in 1990–1991. Adam Griffith
Adam Richard Griffith (born 11 February 1978) is a former Australian cricket player and Australian bowling coach. He was appointed as the cricket coach for Tasmania for the 2017–2018 season. He played first-class cricket for Tasmania and also had a spell at Leicestershire. He played his club cricket for South Launceston Cricket Club & North Hobart Cricket Club. Playing career Griffith represented his native state of Tasmania between 2002 and 2010, and was a member of Tasmania's first-ever Sheffield Shield winning team in 2006–07. He took 158 first-class wickets for Tasmania; at the time of his retirement he was the fifth-highest wicket taker in the state's history. Martin Love
Martin Lloyd Love (born 30 March 1974) is a former Australian cricketer who played in five Test matches from 2002 to 2003. He was a right-handed batsman. Early life Love was educated at Mundubbera State School, Mundubbera High School and Toowoomba Grammar School. He graduated with a degree in physiotheraphy from The University of Queensland in 1997. Cricket He made 146 for Queensland in the 1994–95 Sheffield Shield final when the Bulls won their first 'Shield after 68 years in the competition. In 2002 he set a Durham record by making 251. He improved on that with a 273 in 2003. His Test debut was in the 2002–03 Ashes Series in Australia where he played in the 4th and 5th Tests, making 62*, 6*, 0 and 27. Travis Birt
Travis Rodney Birt (born 9 December 1981) is an Australian former cricketer. A left-handed batsman, Birt represented the Australian national under-19 team before making his debut for Tasmania during the 2003–04 season. Strong form at state level led to his selection for Australia A during the 2006 off-season, as well as a two-year stint with Derbyshire in English county cricket. Birt transferred to Western Australia for the 2011–12 season, but has found more success in the Twenty20 format, variously representing the Wellington Firebirds, Delhi Daredevils, Nagenahira Nagas, and Khulna Royal Bengals in New Zealand, Indian, Sri Lankan, and Bangladeshi domestic tournaments, respectively. Not Out
In cricket, a batsman is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batsman is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with, so the innings ends. Usually, two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Batters further down the batting order than the not out batters do not come out to the crease at all and are noted as ''did not bat'' rather than ''not out''; by contrast, a batter who comes to the crease but faces no balls is ''not out''. Robert Leslie "Bob" Parry is an Australian former cricket umpire. Parry umpired in One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals as well as in Australian domestic cricket from 1998 until 2012. Peter Douglas Parker (born 20 July 1959) is an Australian Test cricket match umpire. He was member of the International Panel of ICC Umpires between 2003 and 2008.
