2005 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup
The 2005 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup was held from 8 to 19 June 2005 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It was the fourth edition of the annual women's volleyball tournament and was attended by twelve countries. The intercontinental event served as a qualifier for the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix. Yudelkys Bautista (born 5 December 1974, in Santo Domingo) is a retired volleyball player from the Dominican Republic. She competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, wearing the number #3 jersey. There, she ended up in eleventh place with the Dominican Republic women's national team. Bautista played as a middle blocker. Career Bautista won the gold medal with the national squad at the 2003 Pan American Games and was selected the "Most Valuable Player". For her 2003 performance, she was also named the 2003 Dominican Republic "Volleyball Player of the Year". Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup
The Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup is a continental cup organized by NORCECA with teams from all over America ( North-, South- and Central America, and the Caribbean), that served as a qualifier for the World Grand Prix. The tournament also granted places for the Final Four Women's Volleyball Cup. Since 2018 the event also serves as Pan American Games classification. The men have their own equivalent of the tournament, the Men's Pan-American Cup. Yumilka Ruíz
Yumilka Daysi Ruíz Luaces (born 8 May 1978) is a Cuban retired volleyball player who represented her native country in four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1996. She won Olympic gold medals with the Cuba women's national volleyball team, national team in 1996 and 2000. She also claimed the bronze at the 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 Olympics. As an outside hitter, she was integral to the dominance of the Cuban team in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2023, Ruíz was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Nancy Metcalf
Nancy Jean Metcalf (née Meendering; born November 12, 1978) is an American indoor volleyball player. She represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she finished in fifth place with the USA National Team. She missed the 2008 Olympics with a torn labrum, and was not named to the national team in 2012. Early life Nancy Meendering is the second of four children born to Harry and Dee Meendering. She attended Western Christian High School, where she earned two state titles in volleyball and made it to the all-state squad three times. In addition, she is Western's career leader in kills, kills per game and blocks. She was inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in May 2012. Career Metcalf graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in December 2001 with a bachelor's degree in advertising, and joined the national team in January 2000. Lindsey Napela Berg (born July 16, 1980) is an American retired volleyball player who last played for Fenerbahçe Istanbul in Turkey. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and played volleyball for the University of Minnesota. She played in three Olympic Games for the United States national team, winning two silver medals. Ana Mercado (born , in Tepic) is a retired Mexican female volleyball player. She was part of the Mexico women's national volleyball team. At the 2005 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Mercado was awarded for the best server. She scored during the tournament 25 serving aces and she still holds (as of 2015) the Pan American Cup record for most serving aces.
