The 2005 Women's Premier Soccer League season was the 9th season of the WPSL. FC Indiana finished the season as national champions, beating California Storm on penalty kicks after a 4-4 tie in the WPSL Championship game. Women's Premier Soccer League
The Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is an amateur women's soccer league in the United States and Canada. It is the top amateur league for women's soccer in the United States soccer pyramid, below only National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The WPSL is the longest-running active women's soccer league as it enters its 23rd season in 2021 – the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The WPSL is also the largest women's soccer league in the United States, North America and the world with 135 active teams. The WPSL started as the Western Division of the W-League, before breaking away to form its own league in 1998. The league is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association, an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). WPSL players consists of collegiate and post-collegiate players, who currently or have played across all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA. New England Mutiny
New England Mutiny is an American women's soccer club, which competes at the pro-am level of women's soccer in the US, in the United Women's Soccer league. The club plays its home games at Lusitano Stadium. Team history Established in 1999 as Springfield Sirens, the club played in the amateur W-League. After winning the W-2 (second division) championship in 2000, the club played one more season in the W-League, then a season as an exhibition team before changing the team name to the New England Mutiny and accepting promotion to WPSL as one of the founding members of the East Division. On July 29, 2004, in a match preparing women's national team of China for international tournament, the Mutiny surprised the fifth ranked team in the world, in front of 3000 fans in Agawam, Massachusetts, with a 3–1 lead, and losing 4–3 only in the final minutes. The Maryland Pride was an WPSL club based in Howard County, Maryland Howard County is located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census, the population was 287,085. Boston-North Aztecs
Boston Aztec is an American amateur soccer team based in Beverly, Massachusetts, United States. Founded in 2005, the team plays in Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), a national amateur league at the second tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. In 2009, the Boston Aztec became the reserve team to the WPS Boston Breakers. The Breakers team has loan agreements in place for players to compete with the Boston Aztec in WPSL matches. The Boston Aztec players also train with the Boston Breakers staff. The Boston Aztec roster is composed entirely of post-college players. California Storm is an American women's soccer team, founded in 1995 as the Sacramento Storm, dropping the city name in favor of California the following season. The team is a member of the Women's Premier Soccer League, the second tier of women's soccer in the United States. The team plays in the North Division of the Pacific Conference. The team was a founding member of the W-League, then left in 1998 to become one of the founding teams of the WPSL. The team plays its home games in the stadium of Davis Legacy Sports Complex in Sacramento, California. The club's colors are white and navy blue.
