The 2005 WAFL season was the 121st season of the various incarnations of the West Australian Football League. Claremont Showground
The Claremont Showground near Perth, Western Australia is home to the annual Perth Royal Show. In 1902, of land were reserved in the Perth suburb of Claremont for a new showground to replace the Guildford Showgrounds. The Royal Agricultural Show, of three days, was first held there in October and November 1905. History During World War I and World War II, the showgrounds were used to house and train Australian troops. In 1929, a pavilion and other features were built for the Western Australia Centenary. The Claremont Showground is serviced by a special events railway station on the Fremantle line. Opened on 20 September 1995, it has direct connection with the showgrounds. The original Showgrounds Station, opened in 1954, was located further east with platforms on either side of the line, and required negotiating road crossings to access the showgrounds. Rod Tregenza
Rodney Donald "Rod" Tregenza (born 16 January 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer. Originally playing for the South Mandurah Football Club in the Peel Football League (PFL), Tregenza was a member of 's squad for their first season in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), and later also played for , winning the Bernie Naylor Medal as the leading goalkicker in the competition in 1999 and 2000. He was recruited by the in the Australian Football League (AFL) in the 2001 Rookie draft, but did not play a game for the club, subsequently signing with the South Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Tregenza returned to Western Australian in 2005, playing one final season with East Fremantle. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments, byes may be assigned either to reward the highest ranked participant(s), or randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. The "Berger Tables" used by FIDE for chess tournaments, provide pairings for even numbered pools and simply state that "Where there is an odd number of players, the highest number counts as a bye." Darren Kowal
Darren Kowal (born 18 June 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. A member of Claremont's 1991 West Australian Football League premiership team, Kowal was selected by Melbourne with the third pick of the 1991 AFL draft, behind fellow Western Australian players John Hutton and Marcus Seecamp. He made his AFL debut late in the 1992 season and was a regular fixture in the Melbourne midfield in 1993. Kowal earned a 1993 AFL Rising Star nomination for his 21 disposals and two goals against St Kilda. He also kicked 21 goals for the season. Kowal however spent much of his career at Melbourne as a defender and until 1997 was selected regularly in the seniors. His 1996 season, in which he played all 22 games, is remembered for a physical confrontation he had with a Richmond runner and their coach Robert Walls during a match. Darren Harris (footballer Born 1968)
Darren Harris (born 18 July 1968) is a former Australian rules football coach and player, who spent significant parts of his career in the Australian Football League, West Australian Football League, and Ovens & Murray Football League. Playing career Harris never played football at a national level, and his career at the state level was short but memorable. He played primarily as a rover/midfielder. From country Victoria, he played his early senior football for the Wodonga Bulldogs in the Ovens & Murray Football League, winning a premiership there in 1987. Harris moved to Bendigo in 1988 to complete a degree in primary school teaching. Arena Joondalup
Arena Joondalup is a multi-purpose sports complex in Joondalup, Western Australia, located on of parkland approximately north of Perth. Opened in 1994, Arena Joondalup is a super complex with many facilities including an outdoor sports ground which can host Australian rules football, rugby, and soccer; an indoor arena which can host sports such as basketball and netball; a swimming and aquatic centre; and a hockey facility. The main sports ground is home to the West Perth Football Club. The club moved to Arena Joondalup in 1994. In 2018, the club secured a deal that allowed them to sell the naming rights of the ground for Falcons home games and general club dealings. Claremont Oval
Claremont Oval, also known by naming rights sponsorship as Revo Fitness Stadium, is an Australian rules football stadium located in Perth, Western Australia. The stadium, opened in as "Claremont Recreation Ground", seats . It is the home of the Claremont Football Club, an Australian rules football club that plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL), the state's premier Australian rules competition. Before 1925, the stadium served as a cricket and soccer ground, with no fence, native bush on the eastern side, near the Claremont Showground, and the remaining area a sandy wasteland. Shane Beros (born 22 October 1973, in Perth, Western Australia) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) from 1998 to 2008. Rushton Park
Rushton Park (also known as Lane Group Stadium under ground sponsorship arrangements) is an Australian rules football ground located in Mandurah, Western Australia.
