2005 Castlereagh Borough Council Election
Elections to Castlereagh Borough Council were held on 5 May 2005 on the same day as the other Northern Irish local government elections. Castlereagh West (District Electoral Area)
Castlereagh West was one of the four district electoral areas in Castlereagh, Northern Ireland which existed from 1993 to 2014. The district elected five members to Castlereagh Borough Council, and formed part of Belfast South constituencies for the Northern Ireland Assembly and UK Parliament. It was created for the 1993 local elections, and contained the wards of Beechill, Galwally, Hillfoot, Minnowburn and Newtownbreda. Jimmy Spratt (politician)
James Andrew Spratt (19 August 1951 – 4 March 2021) was a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) politician and police officer from Northern Ireland. He was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for South Belfast from 2007 to 2015. Early life Spratt was a former Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) officer who joined in 1972 and served for 30 years in Derry and Belfast. He worked for the Close Protection Unit including as Primary Protection Officer and was attached to a former Secretary of State, NIO Ministers, the RUC Chief Constable and other VIPs. He was heavily involved in the Police Federation for Northern Ireland and acted as Chairman until his retirement. Judith Cochrane (born 31 October 1975) is an Alliance Party politician from Northern Ireland who was a member of Northern Ireland Assembly for the East Belfast constituency from 2011 to 2016. Thomas Henry Sandford (born March 1943) is a former Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) politician and community activist who was High Sheriff of Belfast between January 2019 to 2020, and a Belfast City Councillor for the Lisnasharragh DEA from 2014 to 2023. Background Sandford was involved with the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) during The Troubles, and later shared a cell with Gusty Spence in 1974. Michael Copeland (born 23 June 1954) is a former Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) politician, who was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for East Belfast from 2003 to 2007, and then from 2010 to 2015.
