Events January *1 January – The Studio closes after nearly two years on the air. *2 January – BBC One airs '' Dot's Story'', an ''EastEnders'' spin-off. It tells the story of Dot Branning's experiences as a wartime evacuee. *3 January – CITV celebrates its twentieth birthday with the ''CITV Birthday Bash''. *4 January – ITV1 airs the first live edition of '' Blind Date'', on which presenter Cilla Black announces she is quitting the show after 18 years. The Salon (TV Series)
''The Salon'' is a British interactive reality TV show set in a beauty salon in London, which first aired on Channel 4 in 2003. Various members of the public (some famous) were invited daily to have treatments (mostly hair styles) in a studio built beauty salon situated in Balham, south-west London, and in the second series, a purpose-built studio inside the Trocadero, Piccadilly Circus. Overview Everything going on in the salon was filmed. While all beauty treatments were free of charge, customers had to agree to appear on television. Beauty treatments on the show ranged from haircuts and Botox injections, to collagen implants and colonic irrigation. Viewers were given an insight into the running and bickering of life in a professional salon with manager Paul Merritt and his team of trainees and employees. Hector's House
''Hector's House'' (French ''La Maison de Toutou'') is a French children's television series using glove puppets. It was first broadcast in France on 1ère chaine on 27 October 1966 and ran over seven series and 78 episodes. It was re-voiced in English and broadcast on BBC1 on 9 September 1968 and repeated throughout the 1970s. Each episode lasted 5 minutes and it was regularly given the pre-six o'clock time slot that brought children's programmes to a close. It was written and performed by Georges Croses with puppeteers Agnès Vannier and Georges Tournaire, using 60 cm (2') tall puppets on a garden set. The English version followed the French script faithfully with minor deviations. TBWA Worldwide is an international advertising agency whose main headquarters are in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, United States. Since 1993, the agency has been a unit of Omnicom Group, the world's second largest advertising agency holding company. History TBWA was founded in 1970 in Paris, France, by William G. Boomtown (2002 TV Series)
''Boomtown'' is an American action drama television series created by Graham Yost, that aired on NBC from September 29, 2002 to December 28, 2003. The show's title is a nickname for its setting: Los Angeles, California. Overview The show portrayed a criminal investigation each week, seen from various points of view: the police officers and detectives, the lawyers, paramedics, reporters, victims, witnesses, and criminals. The series premiered on September 29, 2002. The first season order was for 18 episodes. After disappointing ratings, the series was retooled: the reliance on non-linear storytelling was lessened, some characters were written out, and others were introduced. Ratings did not improve, and the series was canceled, with the last episode airing on December 28, 2003. UK Bright Ideas
UKTV Bright Ideas was a digital television channel broadcast in the United Kingdom, which was part of the UKTV family of channels. The channel broadcast a variety of programmes, often originally aired on UKTV Style, UKTV Food and UKTV Gardens, and are thus mainly cookery, DIY and gardening. The channel broadcast from every day, timesharing with Ftn. History On 3 October 2002, the channel was announced under the name of UK HomeStyle, as part of a preparation of networks on the Freeview service. Unlike the other free-to-air offering from UKTVUK History, UK HomeStyle would be a highlights network that would showcase programming from UK Style and UK Food for the Freeview audience, offering them what is shown on their paid networks. Ftn (TV Channel)
FTN (Flextech Television Network, stylized as Ftn) was a television channel owned by Virgin Media Television (formerly known as Flextech). The channel's main purpose was to exist as a highlights network for Flextech to showcase Freeview viewers the programmes from their paid channels, although it also aired its own programming. It originally launched on 15 January 2003, airing from 6:00pm-6:00am as it timeshared with UKTV Bright Ideas. It also transitioned on Virgin Media, and as a subscription channel on Sky. History The channel was announced on 3 October 2002 as part of a preparation of networks on the Freeview service. The channel's initial launch programming was announced on 1 January 2003, with a launch prepared for the 15th. FTN +1 launched on Sky and Virgin Media on 9 August 2007. Richard Hillman
Richard Hillman is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Brian Capron. He first appeared on 20 June 2001 and became the show's main antagonist until his eventual departure on 14 March 2003. Richard arrives in Weatherfield for the funeral of his late cousin, Alma Halliwell ( Amanda Barrie). He befriended Alma's close friend, Gail Platt ( Helen Worth), and they start a relationship which culminated in them marrying a year later. ''Coronation Street'' (colloquially referred to as ''Corrie'') is a British television soap opera created by ITV Granada, Granada Television and shown on ITV (TV network), ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional town of Weatherfield in Greater Manchester. The location was itself based on Salford, the hometown of the show's first screenwriter and creator, Tony Warren. Tracy Shaw
Tracy Shaw (born 27 July 1973) is a British actress and singer. Early life Shaw was born into the hotel and pub trade, at the time when her parents ran the Talbot Hotel in Belper, Derbyshire. She attended Saint Ralph Sherwin Comprehensive School (now Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy) in Derby, learnt classical dance at Hilda Davis School of Dance, Belper and went to the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester in 1990, where she got a degree in theatre studies. Career Her best known work is as Maxine Peacock in the long-running soap opera ''Coronation Street''. However, Shaw came into conflict with the show's bosses after they reportedly tried to cut her pay by £20,000 a year and she bowed out from her role as a result.
