2002–03 European Shield
The 2002–03 European Shield (known as the Parker Pen Shield for sponsorship reasons) was the 1st season of the European Shield, Europe's third-tier club rugby union competition below the Heineken Cup and European Challenge Cup. A total of 16 teams participated, representing five different countries. This competition was contested between the first round losers from the 2002–03 European Challenge Cup. The structure of the competition was a purely knockout format; teams played each other on a home and away basis, with the aggregate points winner proceeding to the next round. The final was a single leg. The competition began on 6 December 2002 and culminated in the final at the Madejski Stadium in Reading on 25 May 2003. A single-elimination, knockout, or sudden death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament. The club was founded in 1935 by medical student Dino Lanzoni, who discovered rugby at university. They quickly became one of the strongest Italian sides and won 13 titles between 1951 and 2021. Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi (or ''Sergio Lanfranchi Stadium'') was a sports stadium in the city of Parma in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The stadium was named after Sergio Lanfranchi (1925-2001), an international rugby union prop from Parma who played for Italy from 1949 to 1961 and spent most of his club career in France. It was a 3,600 seat arena which hosted Gran Parma Rugby and Rugby Parma F.C. 1931 Rugby Union teams. It also hosted the Parma Panthers American Football team. The stadium is described and referenced numerous times in the book Playing for Pizza by John Grisham. The stadium was demolished in July 2008 because the area was chosen for the Headquarters building of the European Food Safety Authority. Eugene Cross Park
Eugene Cross Park is a rugby and cricket ground in Ebbw Vale, Wales. In November 1919 the Ebbw Vale Welfare Association was formed and bought the "Bridgend Field". The of land became known as the Welfare Ground, and in 1973 its name was changed to its present title in honour of Sir Eugene Cross, the influential and long-standing Chairman of the Welfare Trustees. The ground has terraces, a stand which was bought due to a fire which burnt the previous stands and a clubhouse which boasts a pub, a club shop open at match days and award-winning hospitality packages. The stadium is adjacent to the B4486 road, the Newchurch Road and the Ebbw River. Ebbw Vale Rugby Football Club ( cy, Clwb Rygbi Glyn Ebwy) is a Welsh Rugby Union Club based in the town of Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, South Wales.
