The 2001–02 Stanford Cardinal men's basketball team represented Stanford University during the 2001–02 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team finished second in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 12–6 conference record, 20–10 overall. Mike Montgomery (basketball)
Michael John Montgomery (born February 27, 1947) is a retired American basketball coach. He is best known for his 18-year tenure at Stanford Cardinal men's basketball, Stanford (1986–2004), where he led the program to 12 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA Tournaments, including a Final Four appearance in 1998 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 1998. Montgomery previously served as head coach at the Montana Grizzlies basketball, Montana (1978–1986). Following his time at Stanford, he coached the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for two seasons (2004–2006) before ending his career at the California Golden Bears men's basketball, University of California (2008–2014). He announced his retirement from coaching following the 2013–14 season. The 2001–02 Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team represented Michigan State University in the 2001–02 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were coached by Tom Izzo in his seventh season. The Spartans played their home games at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan and were members of the Big Ten Conference.
