2001 Serbian Local Elections
Eighteen municipalities in Serbia held local elections on 4 November 2001. These were not part of the country's regular cycle of local elections but instead took place in certain jurisdictions where the local government had fallen. Results Vojvodina Titel Results of the election for the municipal assembly of Titel: Milivoj Petrović of the Democratic Party had already become the leader of the local government prior to the 2001 vote and was confirmed as mayor following the election. Titel ( sr-Cyrl, Тител, hu, Titel) is a town and municipality located in the South Bačka District of the province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The town of Titel has a population of 5,247, while the population of the municipality of Titel is 15,738. It is located in southeastern part of the geographical region of Bačka, known as Šajkaška. The League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina ( sr-cyrl, Лига социјалдемократа Војводине, Liga socijaldemokrata Vojvodine, LSV) is an autonomist political party in Serbia. The Social Democratic Union ( sr, Социјалдемократска унија, Socijaldemokratska unija; abbr. СДУ, SDU) was a minor social democratic and leftist political party in Serbia. The Serbian Renewal Movement ( sr-cyrl, Српски покрет обнове, Srpski pokret obnove, SPO) is a liberal and monarchist political party in Serbia. History The Serbian Renewal Movement party was founded in 1990 through the merger of Drašković's faction from the Serbian National Renewal (SNO) party and Vojislav Šešelj's Serbian Freedom Movement. Šešelj left the party in 1991 after internal quarrels and founded the Serbian Radical Party. It was initially aligned with national conservatism and supported the territorial expansion of Serbia. The Democratic Movement of Serbia was formed in May 1992 as a political alliance made up primarily of SPO, New Democracy (ND), Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS). Milivoj Petrović
Milivoj Petrović ( sr-Cyrl, Миливој Петровић; born 1969) is a politician in Serbia. He was the mayor of Titel from 2001 to 2012 and was a member of the Assembly of Vojvodina from 2008 to 2012. He was also briefly recognized as a member of the National Assembly of Serbia in 2002. Aleksinac
Aleksinac ( sr-Cyrl, Алексинац) is a town and municipality located in the Nišava District of southern Serbia. According to 2011 census, the town has a population of 17,978 inhabitants, while the municipality has 51,863 inhabitants. History Prehistory and Antiquity The territory of the municipality of Aleksinac has been inhabited since the neolithic age. Most of the settlements in the area belong to the Vinča cultural group, and are located on the western side of the South Morava river. After the fall to the Romans this territory was included in the province Upper Moesia and after 293 AD it was in the Mediterranean province Dacia. A Roman military road ( Via Militaris) was built in 1st century AD across the territory. There were also two stations for rest ( mansio) and change of horses ( mutatio) along the road on the territory of Aleksinac: Praesidium Pompei and Rappiana. Vojislav Koštunica
Vojislav Koštunica ( sr-cyrl, Војислав Коштуница, ; born 24 March 1944) is a Serbian former politician who served as the last president of FR Yugoslavia from 2000 to 2003 and as the prime minister of Serbia from 2004 to 2008. Koštunica won the 2000 Yugoslav presidential election as a candidate of a broad alliance Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS), which led to overthrow of Slobodan Milošević and the withdrawal of international sanctions against Yugoslavia.
