2001 PBA Governors' Cup
The 2001 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors' Cup was the third conference of the 2001 PBA season. It started on September 8 and ended on December 16. The tournament is an Import-laden format, which requires an import or a pure-foreign player for each team. ''The PBA on Viva TV'' was a presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games on Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation by Viva Entertainment after the company absorbed Vintage Sports. History In late 1999, Vintage Television was bought by media giant Viva Entertainment. Prior to the acquisition, Vintage Television have signed a three-year broadcast deal with the PBA earlier that year worth 770 million pesos. They defeated GMA Network, in its bid to enter into the sports broadcasting scene following ABS-CBN's coverage of the then-existing Metropolitan Basketball Association. From 2000 to 2001, Viva TV broadcast PBA games on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays with out of town games covered on Saturdays either live, tape-delay or aired days later. The Philippine Institute of Sports Multi-Purpose Arena or PhilSports Arena is an indoor sporting arena located inside the PhilSports Complex in Pasig, Philippines. It was formerly known as the University of Life Theater and Recreational Arena or the ULTRA. The arena is part of the PhilSports Complex which is maintained by the Philippine Sports Commission. It was the site of the majority of the games of the Philippine Basketball Association from 1985 to 1992 and from 1999 to 2002. The league still occasionally comes back to play at the arena. Brandon D. Williams (born February 27, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. Born in Collinston, Louisiana, Williams attended Phillips Exeter Academy and played collegiately for Davidson College. He played professionally in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors (1997–98), San Antonio Spurs (1998–99, NBA champions) and Atlanta Hawks (2002–03). William Lamont Strothers (born May 10, 1968) is a retired American professional basketball player. Born in Nansemond County, Virginia Strothers played college basketball for Christopher Newport.
